When I piked up my latest wellbutrin prescription I was surprised that I was given the generic subsititute, budeprion. 3 weeks later I was having symptoms of depression. I didn't associate the symptoms with the medication since I was told that the generic is the same medicine. When I called my dr. the first thing he asked was if I was given the generic. He said the generic is chemically different than the brand name wellbutrin--that's why the name budeprion is different from bupropion (Wellbutrin). It IS NOT the same. He gave me samples of Wellbutrin and after a few days I was back to normal. Now I guess I'm going to have to fight my insurance co. to get the Wellbutrin.

I'm SO grateful others have been kind enough to post their experiences about Budeprion XL versus Wellbutrin. I was wondering why I was so depressed and having sweating, trouble sleeping, and increasing appetite. I'm going to have my doctor request no generic. It is a lot more expensive but it will be worth it. The other thing I noticed is I have a mild form of ADD. On Wellbutrin 300 XL I was doing extremely well and noted my ability to focus improved for some reason. I still don't understand why that might be, but I've chosen not to take Cylert because my ADD is fairly mild and it makes me feel poorly, plus I like keeping my medications to a minimum. Nonetheless, on the Budeprion, I'm back to having symptoms of ADD along with the other symptoms I noted above. It seems unfair that insurance companies would risk the health of patients when clearly so many are having difficulty with this form of Wellbutrin.
