I have only been on Toporal for about a month, 50mg/day. My B/P is now stable, but I am having intermittant chest pain that travels down my arm and into my jaw. I am a 50 yr old female in good shape. I can say that I feel some anxiety daily and that is not normal for me. I have not noticed a weight gain, yet my doctor called today to tell me my potassium levels are too high. Has anyone else experienced this from this drug?

I have been prescribed Toprol XL for the past two years. Recently I have noticed a more frequent occurence of having a sharp chest pain, in the upper left side of my chest. It typically lasts for a few moments, but it is usually severe enough to make me stop whatever I'm doing.

I was put on this medication to help control PVCs, but honestly the side effects are getting worse than the original problem. In the past two years I have also gained twenty pounds. I stay tired most of the time. I don't sleep well, and all factors combined have contributed to a concern with trying to control my anxiety about all of this as well.

To anyone who takes this medication...I hope you have better luck than I have had. Also, trying to get off of it can be a real challenge and needs close doctor supervision. In fact I felt so bad I had to go back to the original dose until I can find a doctor who hopefully knows more than the two I've already been to. I've learned far more by reading about other people's experiences than the Doctors have told me. Good luck.
