I amhorrified at discovering that so many people are in the same situation as me. I suffered from polio as a kid, and had some cardiac problems needing stents implanted in 2002. Have been on Simvastatin aka Zocor since then at 40mg nightly. I also had my ankle fused due to an accident about 25years ago.
The weight has increased slowly but continually ever since 2002, the muscle weakness and joint pain, along with breathlessness and constant fatigue, not to mention the eyesight and memory problems......I had put down to my age and my weight .
I stopped the statin a week ago and overnight the situation started to improve. On holiday 6 weeks ago I was compelled to use a wheelchair but the change in only a few days is truly amazing. I have an appointment with the doc next week but I will be looking for an explanation as to why this has been ongoing for so long and I will be very suspicious of statins from now on.
this souds exactly like what I'm experiencing. I have been taking Zocor for five months. At first I was okay. Now I can barely get out of bed in the morning and my feet and ankles are swollen. I don't want to do the exercize my doctor recommended because then I hurt badly for several days....any suggestions? He says I need a statin. I went on lipitor, but went back to zocor when I started swelling. It's not any better. Any suggestions?
