Dear Wanita, My name is the spelled the same as yours. I am sorry for your daughters death. I quit advair a year ago after I began spitting blood and went back to using Serevent with no problems. The doctor thought the bleeding was coming from my vocal cords, but now we know it is coming from my lungs. They can't culture it. I actually have a hole in the upper lobe of my left lung. It looks like a bullet hole on the Cat Scan. The doctors thought I had Valley Fever, which is found on the deserts of the southwest. Advair is a nasty drug & it has dangerous potential!
Sorry to hear.
I have been on Advair for 5-6 years and this past year I had to be on Prednisone for 2 weeks for the first time ever (w/out stopping my Advair). Prednisone is a naaasty drug with tons of horrible side effects...except it does do wonders for breathing. The problem with taking both medications is the susceptiblity you have to infections because of the decrease in immune system efficiency.
Unfortunately Dr.'s aren't as responsible as they should be in teaching about medications. I looked up Prednisone myself (because I'm very sensitive to medications) and I experienced many of the side effects - including getting a bad chest cold that made my asthma worse for a while. It was a bad cycle...Prednisone and Advair help you breath, but make you more susceptible to infections, getting and infection will make your asthma worse which requires you to use Prednisone and Advair which makes you more susceptible to infections...etc, etc, and on and on.
