Hi, I understand your concern. I would be willing to bet that if you talk to your doctor at this point in time (since you've only took it for a little while) it will be suggested that you 'give it more time' as so many doctors do. This will be a choice that you will have to make, and I wish you luck.
Fortunately the 25mg dose is not as high as some people are started out on, which is good if you decide to discontinue it. I will say from my own experience that you don't want to take this on an empty stomach, it does tend to aggravate heartburn. I was also having frequent urination at times, but over time this has got better.
I regret that you feel anxious about this, even though I absolutely understand why. I am having trouble finding a doctor who is 'truly' familiar with this medication and all possible side effects, even though it is frequently prescribed by so many of them.
The best thing you can probably do for yourself is find and do whatever it takes to work through the worry, (which will only cause your blood pressure readings to stay elevated if you can't). In the beginning I was taking my blood pressure often and the more I took it the more I worried, until I finally decided to stop taking it every time I felt even a little funny. I actually wore my blood pressure wrist cuff around my house because I let the worry get to me. I have learned to cope with the stress of it all, somewhat, but it has took a while. Finding out that other people have had similar problems helped me because I no longer felt it was all because I was just losing my mind.
I wish you well, and good luck with your decision regarding this.
I have also had a problem with fast heart rate and was put on Toprol XL a year ago. I began having bad indigestion problems. Just had an endoscopy and colonoscopy and the doc said I have gastritis and esophogitis and I am now wondering if the Toprol is doing it. It all started about the time I started the medication.
I completley understand the way you feel. I am a 19-year old college freshman, and I suffer from anxiety attacks all the time. I have to breath into a paper bag to calm me down. I think I'm having a heart attack, or I'm dying when these things occur. I recently suffered trama in a car accident, and just stress upon stress... and this is whats happened. I recommend you get into your bible, if your a believer, and ask God to help you through this tough time.
