Bipolar disorder- mood swings. Duh. If one drinks alcohol; a known depressant, of course there will be an affect and it will only be hightened by the combination of any medications. Stay on Divol-proex and forget the booze; the "friends" are better therapy than any medication can ever be. Why risk losing them by drinking?
My husband was diagnosed 6 years ago with Major depression on was put on effexor 225mg and prozac. After reading your posting I'm wondering if the effexor caused his angry outbursts. Now the doctor says that he is bipolar because of his rapid mood changes into inappropriate intense anger.
He also has been suffering during all this time of taking effexor with terrible violent very vivid nightmares at least 3 or 4 nights a week, they are so vivid that he has punched the wall, screams and kicks and ha fallen of the bed. We no longer sleep in the same bedroom since I got hurt once, he has also injured himself. Now he is trying to stop the effexor gradually. I really hope that his nightmares will stop. Now the doctor has him on ABILIFY 15 mg. and he is also starting LAMICTAL. I hope this new meds will work.
