My daughter is 8 and has been on singulair and claritin for 11 months. I recently began bringing her to a behavioral therapist for ocd like tendencies, depression and general aggression. She just was NOT acting like the child I had the previous 7 years. We talked about medication side effects but as she was "only" on allergy medicine, I didn't think much of it. We'll I regret my slow response as I now see that both singulair and claritin cause these side effects. Further to that, both products contain aspartame, which none of my children process well. I feel so terrible that I have been feeding my child the source of some much unhappiness this year. I will now be on the look out for a less offensive allergy medication.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to post a note so that someone like me could find it!
My son is pddnos vs asperger. He began taking Singulair about a month ago. His appetite suffered and he became really agitated and cranky. I thought it was because of the Wellbutrin. Ben has been without Singulair for about a week and is back to his usual self--eating like a fullback. The Wellbutrin is still in the mix and he is doing really well. I recently read in the Autis Advocate about how differently our kids respond to various treatments and interventoins. I already knew that they respond different to medicines. No more singulair.
