The best treatment we found is mayonaise, leave it on overnight with a plastic shower cap, then treat again. You still have to remove the nits, we tried every type of comb and you have to remove them by hand in bright sunlight so you can see them. The combs are just too big. They do not remove anything.The mayonaise kills live ones, I think any oil would.
