I am 70 and have been on Lipitor 40 mg daily for the last 2 1/2 years. I have suffered with severe neck and shoulder pain, weak legs, dry coughing, and memory problems. I shrugged my sufferning off as aging thing. However, after reseaching some on the internet, I stopped taking Lipitor for 2 weeks and my symtoms improved. So, I went back on it a few days ago and my symtoms returned. I visited my doctor today and he has discontinued Lipitor entirely for the next 5 weeks to see if my symptoms improve, and to check my cholesterol level. If my symtoms do improve, which I am certain they will, he will put me on a non-statin drug provided it is really needed. I think that I would prefer taking my chances on high-cholesterol than to suffer as I have for the past couple years.
I will never take Lipitor again. It is my opinion that the negative effects, by far, outweigh the benefits.
