I am taking 10mg of Lisinopril every morning and 25mg of ATENOLOL each evening. Initially it stopped my anxiety attacks and lowered my blood pressure but I found myself getting tired quick and falling asleep for long periods. I have only been on this medication recently because of the anxiety attacks but in the last two days I have noticed my feet have swollen and am unable to put my shoes on. Needless to say, after reading some of the comments on the side effects of ATENOLOL, I am going to give it a miss and report back to my doctor.

I was on 20 mg lisinopril and 100 mg atenolol for years. I had very serious HBP and rapid heart beat. Lately we have cut the atenolol down to 50. Now I am trying 25. I am getting the same benefit, w/o the side effects.

The main side effect of the atenolol is symptomatic depression. The patient is not depressed, but reports tiredness, lethargy. loss of appetite, etcetera. That was me.

There are other symptoms, like feeling light headed. These generally go away after the body gets "used to it."

Today, I took 2.5 mg. lisinopril and 25 mg atenolol. I just checked my BP -- 120/80. My heart rate is 72. In the past, my BP was as high as 300/200 and heart rate & pulse were 216. That was in 1992. At one pint I was on max doses of a beta blocker, an ACE inhibitor, and a calcium channel blocker.

My control was worse on the higher doses. Get a good BP guage. Learn to take your pulse. Keep a record.

One other thing -- I started drinking cranberry juice 6 months ago. I really think that has helped.
