I am still trying to figure out all this yasmin stuff. I am the one whose 13 yr old daughter was given yasmin as sorta a favor because she was having long periods. It seem to me that yes, yasmin or yaz whatever the difference is works well for lots of people. Thats great i'm glad to hear that. What about the handful of women/girls that it does not work well for even potentially dangerous. I am starting to thinkl that the ones that have had bad reactions to this are the ones that didn't have good followup with thier obgyn. It seems to me that there is sometimes no association made with bcp and some of these adverse reactions. I mean when my daughter started to get sick and stuff I took her to the pediat. not the ob/soccer mom. I just happened to stumble upon this site in my own desperation to figure out why my daughter has been and is so chronically tired all the time. I do wish when I recieved these sample packs of strong hormones that i would have been told of things to look for. Honestly ,I don't think this doctor knew of these side effects. I will say they stopped the bleeding she hasn't been on yasmin since the end of march and still hasn't had a period. I was told this should be out of her system by now. I don't believe that though.

There may be something else that is causing your daughter not to have periods such as PCOS, which can cause missed periods. I have been on birth control specifically to control this and when I am not on a pill, I go months, without having one.

I can tell you that yes, some people are not experiencing problems being on yasmin. But I can assure you that those who are having problems are being told by their doctor to continue to take the pill and things will subside. My own gyno told me her doctor wouldn't prescribe Yasmin to her because it has to high of a dose of hormones.

Please know that many of the women are having serious side effects, not the mood shifting or things like that. We are talking about signs of a stroke in mid-20's or signs of a heart attack like palpitations while doing normal exercise with no past history of anything. There are doctors in Florida who are seeing more and more women in their mid 20's coming and complaining that they are experiencing symptoms of a stroke such as one side of the body going numb, slurring of the speech, etc. This is a serious problem and it has nothing to do with not following up with the doctor.

Young women, including me are also experiencing hair loss, major hair loss coupled with migraines all the time, shortness of breath, etc. As a young woman who has had some problems on any kind of birth control, I can assure you that in 5 months of ingesting this pill, I have had severe migraines (no history prior to taking this), hair loss, shortness of breath, slurring of speech, dizziness, exhaustion, muscle cramps, arm going numb or upper half numb or one side of body numb. I don't smoke and I am a former athlete....

Just know that there can be serious side effects and maybe your daughter will not experience them and I hope that she does not. But know that it's not just a fluke that all these women are on this site posting and they all have one thing in common: use of Yasmin. Right now, our doctors aren't serving us a real injustice by not discussing the reality of this pill or any other pill. Just because the FDA approved it doesn't mean it can't be deadly or produce serious problems. The commercial adds state that this pill can cause these serious side effects in rare circumstances....we are proving each day that it's not so rare....

Best of luck to your daughter and ask her on a regular basis how she feels on Yasmin and make sure if she is having adverse effects that they be checked out. I am close to 3 weeks without this in my system and I'm experiencing less and less of all of the side effects.
