Hi, see my posting from August 10th, 2007,7:13 PM and all the replies. I stopped in the middle of the cycle last Friday. The only thing that happens is you get your period usually within a couple of days due to the abrupt drop in hormones, and then you have to wait for your body to re-adjust. I'm glad I simply stopped and didn't bother to take the last week and a half. I feel better already, though I still can't say for sure, but it seems that the palpitations have subsided. I will add another posting in a couple of weeks.
,
Thanks Karen, good luck to you. I'm just going to go back to taking herbs prescribed by my acupuncturist to deal with the PMS symptoms. They take a little longer to work but are so much more worth it then the palpitations and chest tightness. I jumped the gun looking for a quick fix.
The previous posting isn't completely true. One of the major problems some can face when abruptly stopping this pill or hormones in general is hair loss. The abrupt stop can cause shock to your body and you can start to experience hair loss about 2 months after the initial shock. Talk to your doctor about this especially since you were exeriencing the heart palpitations. I too was on yasmin for about 5 months and it's been almost 3 weeks and I am still short of breath and slowly able to exercise more. I have the heart palpitations still from time to time and hopefully as time goes on, it will disappear.
I only mention the hair loss because while on the pill, it has caused it and I've been told abruptly stopping hormones can cause a shock to the system. Hopefully it won't happen to you but just be aware that there are things that can happen when the hormones are stopped. Best of luck!
In response to Kwik16, you are absolutely right, there can be other side effects or adjustments to stopping the hormones, and yes one should check with one's physician. For myself, I was willing to take the chance and stop putting the drugs into my body. So far so good, and no hair loss. Even if I did get hair loss, it would be worth it to stop the heart palpitations. I did check with my doctor and he told me I was suffereing from anxiety ... I wonder why???
It was my own frustration that led me to simply stop. I guess after having taken three different pills over the past year, I figured stopping them couldn't be any worse. It has almost been a week now. I did get a very heavy period, which has now finished. I have also done some aerobic exercise twice this week and I am stilling getting them, though, no as strong. I hope things will continue to subside and that there is no permanent damage. I am still shaking my head and can't believe how many women are going through the same thing. There seems to be a new posting every day or so. It's truly unbelievable.
