Hello everyone. Thank you for sharing your stories. I no longer feel so confused as to what I am experiencing while on Prednisone. I was prescribed this medication for my back (I have a ruptured disc). I am 24 years old. I took a short five day treatment of prednisone about three weeks ago. I was very foggy and forgetful. I was tired and bloated. The worst side effect I have noticed is ACNE! Oh my gosh, I haven't ever experienced a breakout like this before. This breakout is a continuous side effect long after I stopped taking the drug. I went to the doctor again yesterday for a check up on the status of my back injury. He has prescribed a THIRTY day treatment and even more aggressive approach with prednisone!!!! I am so scared to start this treatment because of what I have already experienced. HELP! Does anyone know if the acne will clear up? Will it scar? Does anyone have any tips on this? Thanks.

i dont know if this response is too late... but i had to take prednisone for about 4 months for a intestinal disease i have. i got terrible acne on my face so i went to my doctor with complaints. he gave me a face cream to wear at night, its clindamycin1% and benzoyl peroxide 5%. ask your doctor to let you try the cream.. it takes a few days but it works amazingly. be careful though because it can bleach your blankets and sheets and pillows. i just put a white towel over my pillow case and didnt pull the covers up too close to my face. also make sure you wash it of well in the morning and apply a nice skin cream with some sunblock in it. the cream from the doctor can make your skin a bit sun sensitive. good luck.. i hope you feel better.

I too hope this isn't too late but the acne is most likely caused by an explosion of yeast which prednisone encourages to grow. A carbohydrate restricted diet and especially the elimination of refined sugar combined with one to three months of a natural yeast fighting program (Threelac or FloraBalance, for instance) should help clear it up. You will probably find other positive effects as well: better digestion, reduction or elimination of any athlete's foot or jock itch, etc.

I have just completed 3 weeks of Prednisone because of a HORRIBLE allergic response to Poison Oak. The side-effects of Prednisone are terrible for me also... acne on my face, neck and back which is something that is not typical for me to have unless I have to take Prednisone. (This is my 4th bad case of Poison Oak in the last 14 years). This time around, I took this supplement called CLEAR ADVANTAGE which has zinc, Vit. C and A along with other botanicals that help clear up Acne (and also help your body fight the inflammation associated with Poison Oak). I also used the face wash, toner and lotion and I have had only MINOR breakouts. Yes, I did have much more breakouts then I would like to have had, but it was much more tolerable and was only very minor on my neck and back (GROSS!) and only lasted 1 week total. I am all cleared up now and normally it takes me MONTHS to get over the side effect of breakouts (acne) following prednisone. You can only buy it online at www.arbonne.com. I LOVE THIS STUFF! Search for my name, Jodeen Barba, and I can help you get the products at wholesale! GOOD LUCK!! There is help for that acne from Prednisone!
