Personally, I think you've made a wise choice to stop this medication early on. I've been on it for two years this month, and my side effects are driving me crazy. Odd thing, though, is that it has been really bad over the past couple of months. My short term memory is a mess. I can't sleep well at night. I've gained 20lbs and can't lose an ounce, and this is very frustrating. I'm not terribly overweight, but its sure not healthy for me. I feel like a clumsy air-head much of the time, which is a huge concern. I plan on going back to my doctor soon to see if I can be weaned off of it, which is also a concern because of the reported risk of dangerous 'rebound effects'.
As far as who who this medication works for...all I can say is that not many here are pro-toprol. In fact, if you look at the number of postings for this medication there are far more than for any other I've found. This alone says plenty.
Good luck with your decision to quit it, and take care.
Wow, that's all I can say!! I am so glad I read this and I will be talking to my Dr. very soon. Yep, weight gain, vivid dreams, lack of interest in things I love to do, short term memory sometimes off, fatigue, thankfully, no pain. I just don't feel like ME anymore. I have been on this med for 4+ yrs now!! I sure hope there's a way off it and something better. I had just decided it was part of menopause and aging until today!!
