Have you had an EMG, nerve conduction study on your leg. I have had degenrative disc desease, stenosis and all of that medical terminalogy that does with it, but I fell 8 mo. after my first back surgery, a decompression, Lamenectomy, and ended up being diagnosed with a pars fracture where the Lamenectomy was done and 24 hours after that fall, I had the same pain down my left leg. (I said my right leg in another post, but that is not correct), that you have in your right leg. I was put on Prednisone and Gabapentin, generic for Neurontin, and after about a month and a half, the pain subsided to a tolerable level. I had a spinal fusion of the L4-5 and still not able to return to my previous lifestyle and work. I recently had an EMG, and was diagnosed with radiculopathy, (pronounced radicu as in ridiculous and lopathy as is looks), with ongoing denervation, (loss of nerve supply). The doctor who did my EMG was not able to test my parispinal muscles, (the muscles that cris cross up your back from the spine out), due to the previous two surgeries I had, but would not rule out lumbarsacral plexopathy, which nails the symptoms I am having in my legs now for over a year, anterior leg pain and weakness). My point in all of this blathering is that you may have a damaged sciatic nerve from the scar tissue that is causing your leg, nerve, pain. My leg, nerve, pain went from my butt to my hip and down to the bottom of my foot just exactly like you explained yours does. When my sciatic nerve was freshly damaged, I also had a problem with my foot being floppy, in that it would flop, like a loose shoe sole. It has gotten better, but the nerve has been damaged and there is an ongoing loss of nerve supply to my leg as a result of the damage. I have read that one of the risks of back surgery is damage to the nerves in the back that go to the legs and the scar tissue may be the culpret of your discomfort, but I do not know whether they can go in and fix it or how risky it may be. You may want to check with a microneurosurgeon about that.
i took neurontin for a number of months due to nerve dmg in a shoulder injury. it took the pain away but i would slurr my words, my mind would go blank, i dropped things and my coordination was off. this shit messed my stomache up so bad. i never gained weight cause my stomache would hurt so bad, i never ate. i was clueless to the withdrawal effects and when i ran out, i about went crazy. the only thing that was able to get me off was to smoke a lot of pot. Weed took away my anger, and allowed me to think clearly again, and i felt no pain. it also was the only think that kept me eating.
I was hurt at work 22 yrs. ago., I injured my neck ,shoulder blade area and was in excrutiating pain for 2 years before an army full of doctors could come up with any kind of diagnosis,.Finally after 2 yrs. a specialist told me I had RSD refex sympathetic dystrophy. At first I thought they were saying I was crazy but it was a real, honest physical diagnosis. Without going into detail , Ihad a bilateralsympathectomy lamenectomy preformed in hopes it would relieve me of my misery. It made things worse. I now have no muscle over my upper right side of my back and the surgery left me with a frozen right shoulder blade. A year Later I had to have the first 3 discs operated on for herniations that were there from the get go.. Still no relief from the life altering pain that was this RSD/ Many drugs were used over the years , you name them and they had me on them . I was tking nuerotin for at least 3 years , It helped some with the nerve pain but the side affects were too many and horrible to make it worth staying on it for me. The brain fog was bad but the wieght gain was the worse. The last thing you need is to put on 40 extra lbs, when you cant move around in the first place. Yes I said 40, It was over the course of 3 yrs. but it was due to the medication, My drs. told me it is one of it's nasty side effects. my pain management doctor said it should be worth it if it is helping with the pain.LOL is he nuts? I heard on line some of the people who share in my same medical situation were taking methadone for pain. Many said they felt better than they have since first being hurt and would recommend it to chronic pain sufferers. I talked to my doctor and he put me on it along with my usual plate of meds and I have never been so happy to have done taken a medication in my life. It has given me back my life. It's amazing to me that all drs. don't perscribe it to their pain patients who have tried everything else with no help. This med has no mental side effects for me and the pain is so well controlled I sometimes forget I have any medical problems. I once stopped taking it for a couple days thinking maybe the RSD burned itself out or something but I went right back into the hell I call pain that it was obvious it was the methadone doing such a good job. of reliving me from pain. I can tell you I no longer have problems remembering thongs, Ihave no brain fog at all. I can drive again and I was able to raise my family again. I am aware of the stigma of methadone and that it is a highly addictive medication but no matter what I would have to take would have been for the rest of my life anyways so aaaaaaaaaI 'm not worrying about it at this time. Its been about 5 yrs. that Ive been taking it and I have my life back and thats all that matters to me.It is not worth living if everyday and every minute is lived in pain. I would recommend it to anyone who lives in the hell of pain and doesn't know this medication is out there . Good luck and God bless
