Iv'e been aking Toprol -XL for 25 mg for 3 years. Gained 25 pound...

I have been taking toprol xl for 2 years. Now up to 75mg. Doctor says no side effect like that, but I have pain that started in one knee. Next opposite ankle and then that knee and sometimes shoulder. Also lost sense of smell and have a runny nose all the time. Doctor says I need to take toprol. Oh also have sleeplessness and am looking for a new doctor so I can get off Toprol. Let me know if you find out more about side effects.

I am a registered nurse and have NEVER believed in taking medications because of all the nasty side effects. I have been on Toprol for about a month and just recently I am having tremendous leg pain which seems to be muscular at the sides of both thighs. Very bad when I get up from a sitting position. I am taking this to control PAC's and it has worked well, but the leg pain is awful. I mentioned this to the cardiologist and he just shrugged it off. I see the internist in a week and I will see what she says. I truly believe it is from the Toprol.
