I was given minocycline Ocotber of 2007 for acne from my dermatologist to be taken for 3 months. Two months into taking the medicine I began to have severe allergic reactions. My lips, tongue and throat had swollen shut then I developed severe mouth sores on the inside and outside of my mouth I was dizzy all the time to the point I would just lay in bed this lasted for at least eight months. I was rushed to the ER and they did nothing for me, they said that I was having a panic attack and they gave me a pain shot and sent me home. The next day I developed severe muscle and joint pain to the point where I couldn't walk or move my arms I would also experience shooting pains through my chest I knew right off it was the medicine Minocycline. I was so scared not knowing what this medicine had done I felt like I was going to die. I had stopped taking it and started to go and see several docotors that would just take blood work and everything came back normal they all told me that Minocycline wasn't dangerous and whatever I was experiencing was not from it. I began looking anything up that I could find about Minocycline and came across dozens of people that had allergic reactions to the point of hospitalization along with three deaths, I read that one 39 year old woman died after just taking it for four weeks she died from liver failure. I have been tested for lupus & arthitis, and everything showed normal. My body then started acting as if I was having an allergic reaction on it's own I would start itching I then started taking benadryl that did not help much, so I just started calling it a reaction and when this would happen my muscles and joints would hurt I couldn't move, my lips started feeling like they were swelling my tongue would itch the veins in my hands and arms would flare then swell up, I would get a dizzy spell and the whites of my eyes would turn red my lips would burn terribly, the joints in my fingers and toes would hurt, my mouth would dry completly out and this would happen to me at least twice to three times a day, this went on for about six months. I then went to an Internal medicine docotor that diagnosed me with Minocycline arthalgia but he could not understand anything else. To sum this up I was a healthy individual that never went to the docotor for anything never got sick, never took off work for health reasons until I was perscibed this medicine. It's going on one year and my Joints never returned to normal I still have severe pain in my knees and wrist and fingers until this day a reaction still happens to me where my muscles hurt and my veins flare in my hands. This medicine is more dangerous that it is helpfull and when looking information up online a dermatologist said that this medicine needs to be given with alot more precautions because of the rare but serious side affects that goes unnoticed. There is only one me and my health is my number one priority, I'm going to seek legal advice and see if something can be done. I have 3 children I have to live for.
