I also have had Mirena for three years, I got it inserted at my 6 week check up after having my daughter. I had mild cramping for a couple of days after insertion, but other than that was enjoying not having a period/ very light one if any... now over the last 4 months my periods have been more and more painful, lasting longer and I've been getting more and more miserable. Then, this last week I've had awful pain in my back and stomach area. I was concerned it could be my IUD so I went to the doctor ASAP. She couldn't find it. Said it had slipped into my uterus and would need removal as soon as I could do it. (I am currently uninsured) So, as soon as my husbans's insurance kicks in, I'm going to the OB/GYN for the ultra sound and praying that it will be an uneventul removal. I have fears that it could be lodged in my uterine wall, which I'm sure you've read can cause some awful problems such as scarring and inability to get pregnant. I am currently suffering from an excruciating headache, cramps all over my abdomen and back, tight and sore neck and shoulder muscles, depression, can't lose weight (though I'm regular at the gym and an average eater, I'm pretty much miserable. So, an over all summery is I do not recommend Mirena. I thought it was a wonderful miracle for a couple of years, now it seems to be a curse that I'm waiting to be over with as soon as possible! Hope no one else has to go through this too!
