I have been on methadone for a little over a year, and also have severe constipation, although my boyfriend is also on it and doesn't have any problems with it. I was up to 80mg a day and I have managed to get myself down to 30mg, but it is really hard now, i tried 25mg and just found the withdrawl unbearable. Now that my dose is a bit lower I have managed to get the constipation under control. Although I have gained about 35 pounds, it really sucks. When I was having a hard time with the constipation one thing that really worked good was Bran Buds (cereal), they don't taste that great but you can even just sprinkle them on your normal cereal, they work great, you will go within 6-12hrs. Try them
Hi thank you for responding. I have never heard of that cereal. Does it have tons of fiber in it. I have tried to lower my dose for the last year and a half but the clinic I go to makes it very difficult to detox. I was able to detox one time and I dropped 30mg. It did not change anything because I was on 150mg. When I was detoxing I was planning on going down as far as I could handle it. Until one day they just stopped the detox. They stopped because I failed to give them a urine test a couple of times.I did not have anything to hide I just could not go.So in ought for me to detox I have to give them 3 months of clean consecutive urines.I am clean but they give you a urine test like once a week on diffirent days and sometimes I can not go.I wanted to ask you if you lost the weight once you went down on your dose. Thanks for your time
don t worry about the weight gain and constipation i and a lot of people i know have the same ploblem.
Narcotics absorb water in the body the reason for the constipation is (excuse me for being gross) your poop doesn't have enough moisture to "flow" through the intestines. Think about a fat person who gets stuck in a water slide. People who take a-lot of narcotic pain meds need to drink a-lot of electrolites (gatorade, poweraid, etc)
