Hi there - I have an appointment in an hour to get this Mirena removed! My husband did a lot of research yesterday after I had one of my worst anxiety attacks ever and I am just now feeling a little better. Anyway, we found tons of people complaining about thinking they are going crazy and insomnia. I, personally, thought I was losing my mind, like I couldn't control any unwanted thoughts and just so happens that I am getting my period shortly. I tend to be super sensitive to hormones...can't go on the pill b/c I get really sick and both of my pregnancies I was puking til birth so I wish I had thought of getting this out sooner. I've had it in for 6 months. I saw my regular MD and he prescribed Zoloft which I am not going to take either...took that for 4 days and I have dry mouth and couldn't sleep at all. All these doctors are so quick to prescribe medication, I am going to stick with going to acupunture, yoga, eat well and excercise and if I have to talk to a therapist I will. BUT I blame this all on this IUD.
There is an IUD called Paragard that does not give off any hormone at all and it lasts for 10 years, maybe you should consider that. It seems like this Mirena is too new and doctors don't seem to know enough about it.
Oh and when I called my gyno and told her I was having anxiety real bad her reply was "oh yeah, that can definitely be from the IUD"...gee thanks after 6 months of freaking out and thinking I am going nuts.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for your reply! Yeah, my insomnia and nightmares are worse and worse. Thing is with me, I have already had the copper coil-the hormaone free one that I think you are refering to. Because I have not had children, I think it was too big(?) for my womb and therefore gave me really bad period pains and periods that lasted for about 2weeks. I gave up on that after about 6months. I dunno. Contraceptives are a nightmare! Might investigate this sponge thing further, think its relatively new and only 90% effective, but hey, no hormones!
Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply!
All the best, Ashley
I do agree with you. I have the same feeling about Mirena. I 'm going to take it out ASAP.
