I had a heart attack back in June. In the hospital after the stint placement, they started me on Metoprolol (which I think is the same thing as Toprol) and Lisinopril. In the hospital I kept up with BP reading and heart rate when they would take it and I kept telling them my BP was too low, so the doctor took me off the Lisinopril. So 2 months later I was doing good. Last follow-up in late August..stress test..echocardiagram..etc. and he adds me back on Lisinopril in addition to everything else I am taking. He told me when I first went off of it, that I WOULD go back on it. I don't know what the deal is, but after having been on 5 mg a day for almost a week, I started having these stabbing chest pains. They would last only a second or two at most and I never could tell when they were coming on. After a major heart attack, I know the difference in heart pain and other pain. This is heart pain. Scares the crap out of me each time. Started also feeling like crap, tired, arms (especially left) feeling tingly/numb as if blood cut off, sweating more than normal, bad neck ache, and that spaced out feeling you described. Then I start thinking what if I am having a stroke. First onset of chest pain and my BP running low..like 94/54 with heart rate at 48. I was convinced it was the licinopril and halved the dosage. It kept getting worse and I called the doctor and they told me to stop Lisinopril and Metoprolol, so I did. It is getting better. I am still having periodic remnant of chest pain, but farther apart and less intense. I am just trying to get this crap out of my system and I took a very low dosage for a very short while. Went to cardiologist this morning and they did EKG and have an appointment first thing in the morning with the Cardiologist. Him and I are going to go round and round if he trys to insist I keep taking the Lisinopril, no matter how low the dosage. I read a lot of posts here and I don't see a lot of post heart attack patients, but mostly HBP patients. I don't understand why doctors are prescribing Lisinopril for HBP only. There are all kind of other BP meds out there that work. I was on Avalide before.
lisinopril is an outstanding medication for hypertension. along with hypertension comes damage to your kidneys, and lisinopril protects your kidneys from that damage. doctors prescribe it all because it is a wonderful drug. i get fatigued and tired when i first take my a.m. dose but it wears off as the day goes on. to me it is worth taking to protect my kidneys.
I have been taking prinivil, which I'm told, is the same as lisinopril, for a least 10+ years, and now my cardiologist has added toprol. I take both with no ill side effects, but somethings I think I don't need both. When I'm stressed, my heart goes into A-fib, and the toprol puts it back in rythm, and I feel great. But for now, I'm taking both and I am not changing anything, because I have another problem I'm dealing with, cancer.
I used to have very painful stomach aches and migranes everyday, but then I started taking Lisinopril for High Blood Pressure AND as an antidepressant. It works miracles! I haven't had a depression outbreak since I stated taking it and my blood pressure has dropped into the "healty" category. I get slight stomach aches here and there if I don't take my meds with food, but other than that I feel AMASING! The stomach aches I have now are nowhere close to what I used to get, and I've even been losing weight since I started taking it. It really is a magic pill!
