Hi,
Yes I too have experienced side effects after being on prednisone.
I was on it for ten years for Ulcerative Colitis which I am sure you know is close to Crohn's Disease.
I have been off it now for three years and am still experiencing side effects.
I have very sore joints and still get mood swings where I become aggressive and anxious and can't control it. At the same time my face puffs up and my torso also puffs up. I also seem to have trouble producing my own cortisone so at times I will get very shaky and feel nauseous and this will cause me to start twitching. All of this use to happen all the time after I got off the cortisone but it now happens only around about when my pperiod is due. Except for the sore joints but I control how sore they are with fish oils which really helps by the way.
Basically your body now has to produce its own cortisone instead of the prednisone doing it for you. This means that you are going to experience side effects while your body trys to work it out.
Good luck

My son had been on pred for 2 weeks, and then was switched to Entocort, which has less steroid coursing through your bloodstream, and it wasn't until he switched to the Entocort that he started breaking out in acne. I think the high doses of the Pred treat the inflamation of the acne at first, and once you taper down or switch to the Entocort the antiinflamatory properties lessen and you see more breakouts.
I don't think my son (16) has had hair loss, but I do know he can't sleep at all. Just naps here and there.
Hope this helps and good luck to you!
Yes, I have been off of Prednisone now for about 31/2 wks & am having side effects, which seemed to start once I stopped taking it! Really bad mood swings, which are finally slowly evening out, but I'm getting a lot of acne and up until today was retaining a lot of fluid. I'm getting really frustrated w/this and wonder when all of this is going to be over. I was on 40mg for about 7 days, my Dr never tapered me down, although the last couple days I only took 20mg. After reading all this stuff online about what an awful drug it is I wish I never would've taken it. It was prescribed to me when I had my tonsils out and a septoplasty to help reduce swelling. I think I would've rather had swelling and been in extreme pain, than have to keep going through all of this crap. Stupid ass Dr, and of course he didn't give me any kind of warning about what kind of effect this horrible drug might have! Anyway, back to the point, does anyone know when these side effects will stop? Like I said I only took it for 7days (40mg).
I just posted about a similar problem. I have a nasty spread of acne across my chest and face that started yesterday, a whole week after I discontinued prednisone. Being in the medical field, my educated guess is that it may be related to your body adjusting to the fluctuation of corticosteroid levels. I called my MD this morning and will hopefully have a more concrete answer soon. Good luck!!!
I was on prednisone for 3 months.
ACNE
A couple weeks after I stopped taking I got severe facial acne. It has been two months since I stopped taking prednisone and the acne is still there.
JOINTS
I had joint pain after starting on prednisone. It is still there 2 months after stopping.
HIRSUITISM
Slight growth of hair on shoulders. It is not gone.
STRETCH MARKS
These started once I gained lots of weight. They are still there 2 months after stopping prednisone.
INSOMNIA
Stopped once I started to taper down off of prednisone.
