Hi, Thanks for responding to one of my posts regarding the discontinuation of this medication. I don't doubt that you are right, discontinuing it probably is relative to how long a person has took it. Since I've been on it for so long (two years), even when I try to cut back I immediately have problems. I feel as though I'm in a catch-22 with this and I don't know what to do. I did read somewhere that for those who have been on it for a longer time and are quitting, they need to lower their activity levels for a few weeks to help them ease through the transition. The 'rebound effect' is what really concerns me, trying to get through that period is something I'm not sure how to handle. If you learn anymore about this I would appreciate hearing from you, if you have time.
I read about your symptoms that seem to have started the same time you began this medication, and I just want to mention that I've read through many of these posts and I have noticed where others have experienced similar concerns. And in my experience you're right, the doctors typically don't believe some of these types of symptoms are related to the medication. Personally I feel that we, as patients, know ourselves well enough to notice the changes we experience no matter what the doctors say. Even allowing for those patients who may respond with the "me too" symptoms, there seems to be enough information being shared to cause a person to want to be careful.
I wish you well, and good luck with your decision regarding this medication...Judi
Hi, just wanted to let you know I have been taking Toprol for almost 2 years. Gain 34 lbs. I have been experiencing leg pain, hip pain, headaches, trouble sleeping and feeling so tired all day long. Last month I saw the doctor and explained my symptons, I mentioned to the doctor if this medication was causing me to gain weight, he said no, but I seriously think it's the medcation after reading everybody's repies. I identify with most of them. Any suggestions?
