I am just about to burst in tears from reading all this information. Our daughter is 4 years old. She is been in Singulair (for her Allergies) since she was almost 10 months. It been quite a rollercoaster for us. We have been told she is ADHD (although can't be diagnose until 6), she has almost all the characteristics. hyperactive, mood swings vary between days, now leg pains, nightmares, etc. Two years ago our allergist took her off Singulair but our pediatrician didn't agree, so we went back. It has been very painful because our daughter is such a bright girl; we don't want her to suffer, not to be accepted because she is acting like this. From reading all this information my husband and I decided to take her off Singualir. Hopefully we see some changes that can give us a sense of relief. Any words of wisdom?

in march of 2007, i discovered what you are now discovering. be patient...it will take a full 10 days to see the dramatic changes. there will be little improvements along the way but in 2 weeks you will be amazed. please feel free to email me with any questions.

I am in a state of shock right now! This has also been my life the past year. I, too began taking Singulair one year ago, I am 36 years old. After just a couple months my asthma did improve but even after running and doing Pilates about five times a week I gained weight. I then suffered from nightmares, panic attacks, would lose my patience and become irrational and combative. I was then diagnosed as depressed. My therapist concluded I was ADD. I just realized I had "forgotten to take my Singulair" this past month. I am no longer depressed. I have lost weight. I am no longer sleepy during the day, my focus has improved. These are all symptoms of ADD. I don't think I ever had ADD. I truly believe that Singulair ruined my life for a year. I will continue to now practice special breathing techniques by Dr. Weil, which my therapist suggested I use to assist with my depression, which also did improve my asthma. I also occasionally use my Albuteral inhaler. My asthma is fine. I am so angry with my Dr. who had to notice my weight gain and anxiety-she is the one who sent me to therapy! DUH! It all makes sense now. I am considering contacting an attorney. Good Luck to all of you

We also have a 4 year old daughter who has been taking singulair for over seven months. She has gained thirteen pounds since being on singulair. I decided to stop the singulair two weeks ago when she weighed sixty pounds. Sadly doctors do not believe singulair is linked to weight gain or any other adverse symptoms that we see in our children. We were told to plan healthy meals and increase her activities, she continued to gain weight even after following the doctors suggestions. We as parents need to probe a little deeper into making drug companies accountable for false and misleading information on drugs administered to our children. Good luck.

Depending on how your child is doing and on the allergies are to, there are other medications that could be tried such as claritin and zyrtec. It is not an all or nothing!

Depending on what your child's allergies are to, it is not an all or nothing deal. Consider asking your pediatrician about alternatives to keep allergies under control such as claritin or zyrtec.
