OKay, I don't know if this has anything to do with Mirena or not,...

OKay, I don't know if this has anything to do with Mirena or not, but I have had my implant since August 2006. Typically I am a very happy, healthy person. I eat extremely heathy (almost all organic, tons of vegetables & fish & almost no processed foods). Anyhow, for the last 6-8 months have have become VERY moody. I am often grumpy, I cry everyday, I have pain in my joints (I believe it to feel like arthritic pain). My finger joints are always sore. I am a fit person & am uncapable of opening a jar anymore. And, I have this nagging pain in my lower back to the left of my spine. Like I said, I'm not sure if this is because of my mirena implant, but I take no other medication, I don't even take OTC pain meds. I'm only 27 and consider myself to be very healthy. I'm not sure what else it could be. I suppose I will have it removed & see if I can become a normal human being again. I appreciate anyone else who can share their experience...I just want to know if I'm crazy or not???

You are not crazy. The hormone in this is the same that is used in the 3 month birth control shot, progesterone, and I had the same side effects when I had that shot. I also have mirena, and am thinking about removing it. I think there have been a lot of the same side effects that this site shows, but I especially am having a lot of pain and some bleeding after sex, and it generally just feels bad. The risk for people who have Mirena to get ovarian cysts is, I think, about 19%. I am looking for another alternative, as I don't want to get a tubaligation or get pregnant right now. Good luck, and trust your instincts, it sounds like you are having severe reactions

Hi,
No you are not going crazy.! I have achy joints, find it hard to write sometimes, at least for long length of time, and have gaind bit weight, which is not good cos I'm trying to lose weight! I've been depressed, although I am capable of getting low, but don't think Mirena was helping. Plus side (cross fingers) - last couple weeks I have been feeling better. A little brighter. Have had Mirena for 4-5 months now. Am hoping it just took time to settle down. Will see!! Hope you feel better and good luck.. Pauli

I was interested to read about the finger pain. I have had bad joint/finger pain recently and did not think to associate it with the Mirena. I have also experienced bad acne since being on it. I think I will give it another month or so, but if things do not improve, I will have to try other BC methods. I have been on it for 4 or 5 monts now. Thanks.

I too am 27 and have had the Mirena IUD since early 2005. I have had weird things going on in my body, but didnt think to link it with the IUD until looking online rescently. My symptoms have been getting worse and I have been feeling pretty insane as well. My joints are hurting more, I have tingling in my hands and feet, back pain, headaches, and the list goes on and on. I am getting mine removed on Wed. so we will see what happens. I am praying my life gets back to normal then. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and I hope you too get some relief. Keep us posted and I would recommend making that appt.
