How long did you take the Lipitor? How long after being off did you notice a difference? What dose of COQ10 do you take? Thanks, wgret
Hello wgret, I was on lipitor for nearly 19 months. The severe stiffness in my feet subsided within a few days (10 to 14) after stopping lipitor, but the pain remained for awhile, and is slowly...I mean slowly...recovering. I still have some difficulty swallowing as well.
About 8 weeks after I stopped lipitor I starting taking coQ10, 100mg. twice a day, and noticed an improvement within 3 days...far from being cured but an improvement. Have you experienced the same from being on lipitor?

My story is much the same as yours with all the same symptoms. In my case, I am a 58 year old male who had enjoyed relatively good health and an active life style. I recently moved back to our home town and re-established my contact with our previous doctor. I have had marginally high blood pressure for a number of years. My treatment had been limited to Cozaar. Using this drug along with controlling my weight through healthy eating gave me a good degree of control over my high blood pressure. My doctor however felt that based on US studies I should also be concerned about my cholesterol although I never had a problem before. Although my doseage was low 10 mg, I started having problems with my voice, hoarseness. This progressed over a two year period to difficulty swallowing, breathing, a fear of choking. At that time I noticed a greater frequency of leg cramps, soreness in my muscles including the stomach. Like you, I finally put it together and realized that this all began with my use of Lipitor. While my doctor refuses to accept that fact he has me going through a series of neurological testing to assess damage done. I came across this website and its link to Jonathan Campbell, a health consultant. It was there that I learned about Coenzyme Q10 and his other recommendations for natural recovery from statin therapy. I have just started that program in the belief that my progress to recovery can begin. I would suggest that you research his website to see what other supplements you may want to try to accelerate your recovery. It is encouraging to hear that you have recovered somewhat although slowly. It is very frightening to go through these symptoms thinking the worst. I am thankful for this site and the postings on it which offer encouragement.
Wow... this is interesting. I dont even take Lipitor and I'm experiencing the same side effects from my blood pressure medicines... Toprol and Benicar with Hct. I wonder if there is a common thread to this.

I am suffering from the "muscle weakness" reaction to lipitor. How do you go about rebuilding these muscles. I am a CNA caregiver and I walk like I am crippled - mostly my left leg. I also have nearly all of your symptoms. In the beginning I had footdrop (big toe and inner side of foot turn under making it impossible to bear weight. This is better now but the circulation and swelling is still bad. My knee will not function properly. I am having a difficult time finding information and how to reverse these side effects. Please let me know any iformation you have on reversing these side effects. Thanks. Bonnie
