Yasmin gave me IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrom for those of you who don't know.) I was on the pill for eight months. My pre-symptoms were I had 5 yeast infections in a row, in the second and third months of taking it...this didn't ring any bells, even though I had never had a yeast infection before in my life, and my doctor just said I had a yeast imbalance. So a month after those stopped the IBS started. I was in the bathroom about 8 times a day, I thought maybe it was a flu, so i didn't go to the doc right away. I eventually gave up on that thought and went to see my doc, who even he, thought that it was IBS, so he sent me to a specialist right away. I had a colonoscopy and nothing, so the specialist told me that I needed to stop searching and just accept that I had IBS (I told him that I had been trying to figure it all out, because you literally don't wake up one day, go to the bathroom and your life changes forever, I KNEW something else was going on.) Anyways, I had a dumb specialist, he said that I had to accept this, I asked if it could possibly be my birth control and he said no and prescribed my a whole bunch of other drugs. Well I still just couldn't believe my life just all of a sudden changed, so I went to my family doc, lied, told him i was getting moody off Yasmin, and he switched me onto another. IT WORKED no more IBS, the results were immediate, it took a while for my poor damaged bowls to fix themselves, a few months actually, but now things are getting back to normal. Oh, and I've stopped birth control pills, back to condoms for me...my doc put me on Alesse, which didn't work either - moody! and then he put me on Marvelon, which inflamed my gallbladder (had to go for an ultrasound to see if i had gallstones) I figured at this rate, in two years i'd be dead from taking b/c so I was done, I would recommend the same to anyone!!

I have been on Yasmin for almost 2 years and I am just now making the connection to it and all my health problems that keep popping up. I started getting IBS just after I started use of Yasmin. I didn't know what my problem was and so I just dealt with it for about a year. Then it got worse and I got sick of feeling poorly all the time and started seeing a gastroenterologist. First thing he found was an ulcer and so I've been on Nexium and it's not helping. My ulcer was causing me pain like I was hungry and when I ate the pain went away but then I would get really bad intestinal pains. Sometimes it's so bad I can't bare to even move. Anyhow I didn't realize that these intestinal problems could possibly be from Yasmin. I came across the info when I was looking into other problems. I started getting a brown mark on my face next to my nose and my regular doctor said it was from my birth control although when I called my gynecologist about it they said they never heard of that before. I've also had no desire for sex and I thought that might be the birth control. Oh, and I'm tired all the time. I can sleep for 10 hours at night and then still feel like I need a nap. On a weekend when I can take a mid-day nap I could go for like 4 hours easily. I can sleep any time, anywhere. I've got an appointment next week to discuss all of this with my gynecologist. I am getting something new for birth control. However, from all the bad things I'm reading maybe no birth control pill is good. I am also going to talk to my gastroenterologist about the possibility of Yasmin causing all of my IBS problems. My stomach and abdomen are in constant pain and it's getting in the way of my life.

I had these same symptoms too, waiting now to see if they'll go away now that I'm off Yasmin. It's been 5 days since I stopped and not one IBS attack when before I was ahving them at least 3 times a day! A good sign....

And the brown patches you describe are melasma. They can happen from any change in hormones- the pill or pregnancy for example. Any GYN worth their salt should know about that!

I've had the same side effects. My main problem is how I can wake up with the worst stomach pains in the world. I've gained a massive amount of weight since I started my whole shebang on bc pills, 1 yr with 2 months non-consecutively off. I'm going to my doctor again to beg her to take me off of it. Of course it sucks that I have to find another way of birth control, ie using a copper iud which i really am interested in, but as a 20 year old female who has so much of her life ahead of her, its not worth all the pain. I've always had IBS, but the extent to which it has been is so unbearing that I just want to curl up in a ball and die for some days on end. It's not fun, believe me. and oh ya, feeling tired all the time, and weight gain, adn if you have hair loss, irritability, cold all the time are all symptoms of an underactive thyroid, which amazingly started in me when I started on the pill again for the 2nd time around this year... interesting no? Get your tsh levels checked if you have any of these symptoms
