I have been having chest pains every afternoon since July 13th, which was right after the doc prescribed me Toprol-XL. I have had SOOO many tests and they can't figure out what the problem is. The chest pains happen in the afternoon while I'm walking, I don't mean walking for exercise I'm talking about walking to the bathroom or just to the other room and my chest feels like it is about to explode. I accidentally quite taking the Toprol for about 5 days. My husband had knocked my pill bottle off the cabinet and out of sight out of mind. Well, Saturday was the first day in over 2 months that I didn't have a chest pain. I didn't have any problems for the 5 days, then I realized that I had been forgetting to take the Toprol and started it back up and the chest pains have come back. Has anyone ever had this same problem?

Hello,
Your problem sounds familiar, and if you read back through some of the other postings here you will probably see where a number of people have had different types of chest pains that may relate to this medication. I have been on this medication for two years, and am having trouble finding a doctor who knows enough about it to help me safely get off of it and maybe try something else.

In the evenings is when my chest pains usually start, and they bother me so much I have to stop whatever I'm doing until they pass. I personally wish I had never took this medication, because over time my side effects have been worse than my original problem of having an irregular heartbeat. If you do read back through the other posts, you will find a number of complaints that mention the same complaints over and over again. No matter what a doctor may doubt, we, as patients, know what we are experiencing and I feel more studies should be done regarding side effects of this medication.

I hope you have a doctor who takes the time to listen to your concerns and will perhaps consider something else for you. If he doubts anything you say, you might use this website as a point of reference because there are many, many patients here who are coming forward with concerns revolving around this medication.

Something that I keep repeating here as words of caution...please be careful when discontinuing this medication. It is known to have a 'rebound effect' that many people are not aware of, but can in fact be dangerous. You can find this information here on the web in a variety of places, so if you have time I would recommend looking it up. Whatever your decision is regarding this, I wish you well...take care, Judi
