Hi,
Unfortunately it is going to take a long time for your body to return to normal :)
I was on prednisone for ten years and got the moon face and the weight gain and the mood swings :)
I have been off it for three years but am only just now noticing that my face is starting to look normal in photos again :)
After six months of being off the prednisone my body got very upset. This is because I now had to produce my own cortisone and my adrenal glands were havign trouble doing that after beign suppressed for so long because of the prednisone. I began to throw up and feel very faint. Then one side of my face puffed up even more so than the other one. This went on for a week and then it went completely down. I also noticed that my body puffed up and then it went down.
But the left side of my face did not go down until after two years of being off the prednisone.
I also noticed that if i ate carbohydrates i would put on massive amounts of weight. So I stopped eating bread and i began to eat a lot of protein and fruit and vegetables and i started to lose the weight.
After being on the prednisone, your body doesn't seem to be able to handle insulin production so basically your body is what is called insulin resistant. So when you eat sugar as in bread or sweet things then your body just puts on weight.
The weight on your body is called cushings syndrome.
Anyway that is what i had to do to deal with it. I also took a huge amount of supplements. I took huge amounts of magnesium and calucium via a protein and vitamin and mineral powder which i drank. When I felt sick and my body was going nuts trying to go back to normal i drank it and it kept me going while my adrenal glands tried to go back to normal.
It may take you years before you lose the weight. I also recommend you do exercise but take it easy. When i first started to exercise i became very aggressive and had mood swings. It seems from my experiences that the exercise stimulates your adrenal glands and thus they try to produce their own cortisone and you go through the whole adrenal insufficiency problem where you feel sick and faint but your body will start to get rid of the weight as your adrenal glands try to get back to normal levels of cortisone.
Anyway if you want to talk to me about this then e-mail me at paperworkfairy@gmail.com
Good luck
