I've only been on singulair for 6 days and it is now 4:23am. I just couldn't sleep tonight. I've been having the strangest dreams and I commented to my wife about them. We just laughed it off. Anyway, at this time of the morning, my EARS are "Hissing" so loudly, not ringing, however I do detect a slight pulsating tonal sound in my left ear, that I just couldn't sleep anymore. I've a history of Tinnitus but something has exacerbated my tinnitus dramatically, so much so it is keeping me awake. I think I'll be needing something to help me sleep now. Perhaps I will stay off the Singulair for now just to see if life returns to some kind of normalcy. Could it be a side effect of Singulair. I don't know but I felt like driving something through my head to stop all the loud noise. Has anyone else experienced elevated levels, or a new development of "Ringing in the Ears", commonly known as Tinnitus?

I've had tinnitus issues off and on since I was a kid. Since starting Singulair 5 days ago, the tinnitus has got significantly worse, mostly when I lay down at bedtime. Once it stops, I fall asleep easily and sleep well through the night. I thought it was from another new medication I started at the same time for a different issue, but it must be from the Singulair. The Singulair has diminished my asthma symptoms and made life more comfortable. Question is...do I continue with the Singulair and put up with the tinnitus or continue living with shortness of breath. I don't like to take steroidal inhalants because they make me lose my voice.

If your tolerence level to the tinnitus is ok, I'd lean towards staying on the Singulair until a better remedy is found. Breathing is a whole lot more important than ringing in the ears. However, in my case, sometimes I wonder. I experience severe "hissing", like air escaping from my ears. (I guess I'm considered an "Airhead". :-) A little stab at humor there. I used a simple, over the counter "saline" inhalent once and I started breathing pretty good when I was all stuffed up. Maybe that's an option. Anyway, let the www.ata.org (American Tinnitus Assn.).people know about your side effects to the Singulair. Blessings.

My ears started to ring after being on Singulair for about 2-3 years. I've been off of it for 2 years and they still ring. I don't know if the ringing is from the Singulair or not. I used to have really vivid dreams too and some difficulty sleeping.

We have tried my daughter, who is 6, on Singulair 3 times now. She has mild- mod allergies and chronic sinusitis. She has been a nasal steroid for over 5 years and wanted to discontinue this. We once again tried Singulair and within 2 days of taking this med she has complained of a weird sensation in her ears and she's almost unbearably irritable. The reason we stopped the medication in the past was due to the night terrors, but she was only 2 years old so we didn't know about the possible ear pain/tingles. Good luck, Distraught mom

Accorrding to oriental medicine, loud tinnitus is a symptom that can be realeived by acupuncture and herbs. I had a friend with this condition and it was releived in a couple of weeks.
