Prednisone is a miracle drug that is saving my life. I realize that the side effects can happen and do. I've experienced them too: pockets of fat on my face even though I've lost 25 pounds; loss of hair; Thrush in the mouth and other yeast infections; hyperactivity; insomnia; blurry vision; the shakes; reduction in muscle tone; and secondary infections because of compromised immune system. I have pulmonary fibrosis and waiting for a lung transplant. There is no known cause, cure, or treatment of this terminal disease and most patients die in 1-5 years. Prednisone is the only drug that will at least slow the disease down until I receive that transplant call. I realize that most people on this post are not terminally ill and you can say, "no" to this drug; but just wanted you to know that for some of us it's a miracle drug. Di

Hello Diana. I'm very interested in what you said here. My doctor says I have chronic bronchitis OR possibly pulmonary fibrosis. She put me on a 2-week dose of prednisone as a diagnostic tool, saying that prednisone will not have a positive effect on pulmonary fibrosis, my breathing. Meaning that if the prednisone does help my breathing, it will mean that I do not have pul. fibrosis. I have also started using Advair. I don't know which drug is helping the most, but I can breathe like I have the lungs of a non-smoking 20 year old. It's wonderful. But you say that prednisone does help your pulmonary fibrosis and your breathing. I need to know if this doctor knows what she's talking about; I should see a pulmonologist very soon. I just moved here to Jacksonville and dont' yet have a doctor. I sincerely hope that you get the lung transplant you need very, very soon. Do you have any input for me? I would appreciate hearing from you, Diana. Thank you and my thoughts are with you. If you read this and want to reply, please email me at londiann@comcast.net. Thanks again. Londi

Dear Diana, God bless you and keep you safe until you get your transplant! Your posting was so touching, and I am glad for your sake that there is such a thing as prednisone to keep you here. You make me ashamed for complaining about all the terrible side effects. Thank you for reminding me of how trivial all our complaints are compared to the needs of people whose lives it saves.. patksalsich
