I am a 54 year old male who has a chronic a-fib. My cholesterol was a wee bit high so my now retired MD put me on Zetia, which just about killed me- constant stomach pains and associated GI problems-we all can guess. So I went to see my cardiologist- he took me off Zetia and put me on Lipitor. It dropped my cholesterol levels significantly but the side effects are horrendous. My new MD was gooing to look into it because I was on 80 mg a day- but never did and never lowered the dose-229 is not all that high to warrant 80 mg a day. I am now experiencing severe pain in my right rib-cage area, making sleep an event every night. Also have severe leg cramps the size of golf balls constanlty at night while sleeping. Pain in both elbows, and in the right foot, which when I can sleep wakes me up with a severe pounding pain. I am also experiencing severe neck and shoulder pain and am generally fatigued all the time- So I quit taking the stuff as of today on my own, I am seeing my MD in two week and I want to see what the difference is pain wise being off of the med for two weeks. I have always been a strong physical guy, played football all the way through college and am in pretty good shape for my age, but this stuff is killing me!! Hope this helps someone else also-Thanks for listening-John in Napa, CA.

John in Napa,

I started with Irregular heartbeats/afib and was put on Inderal, then Toprolxl, then Flecanide a generic for Tambocor, Lipitor thus being treated for the symptoms instead of the root problem...why was I having afib in the first place...long story short after a few years of this come to find out my problem was Sleep Apnea.yes and I finally was sent for a sleep test conducted at out local medical center it showed I did need to be sleeping with the C P A P machine.

I now have restorative sleep and feel 100% better all around most of my symptoms are gone. My cardiologist thinks I should continue the meds except lipitor for 6 more months and they may then all be weaned away.

Love that CPAP MACHINE!!

Hey there I thought I was the only one suffering from these drugs! I am a 59 year old male. Been on Cholesterol medication for about 6-7 years now. Started on Zocor. Found myself been worn out )Exausted) in the afternoons. Changed to lipitor. 2 years on that, same if not worse effects. taken off lipitor put on lovastatin(40) mg. Then added zetia: Fatigue set in and I told My Doc I wanted off that stuff. He put me on Vytorin 10-40 two weeks ago. Wow Then it happened. last friday I was doubled up with lower abdominal pain. I couldn't urinate. Was in severe pain.I Quit taking everything Friday Today Monday pain and discomfort has almost subsided I figure another couple of days will tell the story. This Zetia is a Killer??? Mike Chicago

I have hardly ever taken any drugs, but I have seen close by what happened to my relatives/friends.

Particularly a very close friend who died on May 1st at the age of 74.

He had a lot of medications but I am sure that his statin was causing him a lot of pain - all over his body, head ache, ringing in his ears, weakness in his hands etc.

My advice is to read as many books as possible and to search on the Internet. It`s fantastic.

Here are some books:

The Cholesterol Myths (Uffe Ravnskov)

Lipitor - thief of memory (Duane Graveline)

The Great Cholesterol Con (Antony Colpo)

The same title but by (Malcolm Kendrick)

Overdosed America (John Abramson)

The Truth about the Drug Companies (Marcia Agnell)

Malignant Medical Myths (Joel Kauffman)

Death by prescription (Ray D. Strand)

Some useful addresses:

www.thincs.org

www.ravnskov.nu

www.spacedoc.net

www.statinalert.org

Also search for "Stopped our statins"

Then - tell people on statins to share their experiences on this - and other - sites.

It`s fantastic that people all over the world can get to know the truth.

Greetings from Sweden

These statins are hurting every person I know that are taking them. I have found by personal experience and by experience from friends and family that this stuff stays in your body a long time and it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to get most of it out of your system. then your system has to begin repairing the damage the stuff does to you. The longer you take the longer (if ever) to fully recover from the damage.
