I took Topamax about 6 years ago for migraines, and experienced no side effects. Just started it up again 3 days ago, and I feel like I am totally drugged and my head is spinning, can not drive, can barely hold a conversation, only started with 25mg, and can say that each day I feel a little better, but the only difference this time is that I am on Lexapro and my Dr. said the side effects could be worse till I get used to it..anyone else take this combination? And how long till I can function again?

I have been taking topamax since January with no problems, started lexapro a few months ago and thought I was losing my mind, I felt like my brain was bouncing around in my head and I could not function at all. I stuck it out for about 2 months thinking it would get better, but it didn't. My neurologist was upset that I waited that long to let him know what was going on. I was having other symptoms like hands itching, and major weird depression stuff that I had never experienced before.(I am taking the medicine for neuropathy) He took me off the lexapro immediately and put me on cymbalta and the very next day all the problems stopped! I was having a reaction to the lexapro.

I have been taking Topamax for about 1 1/2 years and started Lexapro about 9 months ago. They both have been helping me alot. I have had the side effects of tingling feet, short term memory loss, and weight loss as everyone else has. Although, have you experienced wierd dreams while your sleeping? If not weird, just able to remember them after waking up? I'm trying to figure out if this is another side effect of the Topamax, or possibly an effect of mixing the two medications togther.

I was taking 75 mg of Topamax for at least a year, and then added Lexapro. Half a dose at first for a couple weeks, then 3/4 dose, and then finally a full dose. It was definitely a mess for the first couple weeks. I had experienced *some* hand tingling on Topamax, but the Lexapro was zapping my brain, giving me bad insomnia, and creepy crawly skin down my neck and back especially. The term for the latter is parathesia, and it is supposed to be a rare side effect, but I've seen it mentioned by a few people taking both drugs.

Luckily the insomnia and parathesia went away eventually. About 3-4 weeks. My headaches were doing great so I tapered off the Dopamax. But then they came back, and I'm trying to get by on 25 mg. I'm not convinced Topamax is helping me there...beta blockers (Inderol) work for me. But I digress.

I am among the many, many who can say that I gained weight on Lexapro.

I'm also dealing with some annoying sexual side effects.
