My son and I have both taken Welbutrin. I didn't really notice a lot of side effects. I know that it did not effect my sex drive which other meds did. I lost weight, lost interest in drinking alcohol, lost interest in smoking. Had more energy, My son has had some different things happen to him. He gets real sharpe headache pains in the left top of his head. They come and go away within about 30 seconds. Has anyone ever had that problem? He tried getting off of the meds and experenced all these body pains. It drove him nuts so he went back on welbutrin. The body pains have gone away, but the head pains came back. The doctor said the head pains would go away if he took his meds regular.

I'm Bipolar II and am currently taking 325mg of Lamictal, 300mg of Wellbutrin XL, and Clonazepam .5mg as needed for anxiety. About your son's head pains...I too began to experience them a few months after beginning my cocktail of medications. They were exactly as you described, short about 30 seconds to a minute and always in the left temporal lobe. Ultimately it feels like (and excuse the greusome nature of this description) you're being stabbed in the head with an ice pick. Eventually mine started lasting longer, always occurred at the same time (usually in the evening around 9-11pm), consistently in the left temporal lobe, and I would experience them several nights in a row (usually 2 to 3) and then they'd disappear for a few weeks. After some research and speaking with my doctors I verified that they were cluster headaches. Now I'm genetically predisposed to those and with the other medications I take there's really no telling if Wellbutrin is the main cause, but figured I'd let you know that your son isn't the only one that has experienced it. If they get worse and his psychiatrist can't find a remedy of some sort to at least lessen the pain, then maybe you could consider seeing a neurologist. If nothing else they might be able to shed some light on where exactly the pain is originating from and perhaps help your son out a bit. Sorry if I rambled, being concise, articulate, and focused have fallen to the wayside due to all of my meds. I'm currently researching some other stabilizers, anti-depressants etc. to see if I might be able to combat some of the negative side effects. Anyhow, I hope all turns out alright and your son starts feeling better. Those headaches no matter how brief hurt like the dickens.
