When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug! My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right. She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous. By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately. So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market. Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room. Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine. The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin. Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it. If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it? If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

Hi. My name is Wendy and I have been taking Yasmin for 2 months now and I feel great and I'm looking great! This pill has not made me feel any different than I did before and it has even helped clear up my face and help me lose a couple of pounds. (Its amazing that 2 years after giving birth to my daughter I'm actually starting to lose a bit of the weight that I had on me just from a simple birth control pill.)

Yasmin so far is doing its job and I'm not feeling bad at all. (I will reply though if anything changes.)

Every woman is different and so is her body. Horomones of all kinds can cause 1 normal woman to go completely wack. Sometimes you just have to find the right pill that makes you feel good. If something that you are taking causes problems and makes you feel bad, STOP taking it immediately.

Adolesence is a hard period of time to go through. Already there are so many different horomones changing and so many things changing inside of a young woman's body. (As well as life changing on the outside!) I don't think I would really blame Yasmin completely for the problems that your daughter went through because there can be so many other things that your daughter might be going through that are Unknown to you.

Or it could be the pill? Who knows? The point is, is that there are many, many women out there who have been taking Yasmin and that are feeling and doing great on it. My OB/GYN from when I was pregnant even recommended Yasmin to me after I gave birth to my daughter. She also told me that she had been taking Yasmin for years and she loved it.
Like I said.. Every woman's body is different.

Yasmin also comes with a thick little square booklet explaining everything about the contraceptive and its side effects. Most people don't take a look and actually read it so that could also be dangerous if they DO start to feel ill effects from the pill.

One thing that I read about is that Yasmin can raise the level of potassium in the body, which can lead to heart or kidney
problems.

Just because something is listed as a side effect, doesn't mean it will
happen to everyone. If it happened to one person out of say 100,000
people trying the medication (just pulling a number out of the air),
they have to list it as a side effect.

IT CAN elevate the potassium level in your blood, so the company recommends after the first month of treatment with Yasmin, a blood test be done to check the potassium level.

---------------------------------------------------------

Also I did want to say that YAZ and Yasmin are two completely different pills. (I read some people's messages on here and I noticed that some of them were assuming that Yaz and Yasmin were the same thing)

I also read and I was told this from a Doctor that YAZ can be dangerous because it can cause women to become depressed or women who are Bipolar it can intensify those feelings etc.)
-----------------------------------

Anyway, so far this pill (Yasmin) has worked out great for me and I will be staying cautious just in case. (Like any new medications that you take you should always be cautious and try to see if there are any changes in your body that may be negative.)

I do recommend Yasmin to my friends. As long as they are aware of the effects.

Hi, I was on Depo Provera for almost 10 years. At my last annual my doctor asked if I ever plan to have children. I said yes and she said that I need to stop taking depo and I should switch to Yasmin. I guess depo is the worst thing to take if you want kids in the future. Anyway, I stop depo, switched to Yasmin and 12 days later I was admitted into the hospital because of a blood clot in my right lung. All the doctors are saying it is because of the estrgen in the Yasmin. I am 28 years old and otherwise very healthy. There is no other reason I would have got a blood clot. Be careful, I could have died if I waited any longer.

Some of your daughter's symptoms sound like hyperthyroidism/Graves disease. Has anyone ever checked her thyroid levels? I've bene on Yasmine 6 months and was just diagnosed with it.... I'm trying to find out if it's linked.

I was put on Yasmin almost 2 years ago for to regulate my PCOS. Everything was great. I was actually losing weight when I tried, feeling happier, feeling healthier. About 4-5 months ago, I started feeling a little depressed, and it seemed to stay. Now I am anxious, nervous, can't sleep well, think about stupid stuff, constantly worry, always feel like I'm on the verge of a panic attack, not to mention the hives I have all over the back of my head, my arms, legs, neck, pains in my chest, not being able to breathe. I've never had a problem with any of this ever. I've always been a happy, fun person, and now I just feel miserable. I am at a dilemma though, because the Yasmin was helping with the PCOS, and if I go off of it, I may have the same symptoms of that come back again. I go to see my GYN on the 17th. I called her office the other day, and she told me to go off the BCP until I see her so that she can evaluate the situation, and find out what is wrong with me. If you go to the Yasmin website, it actually lists all of these things as side-effects. I have printed it out to show my GYN. I'll keep you posted on what she says.

I was told pretty much the same thing. However, once on Yasmin for about 2-3 months I experienced extreme headaches and stomach pain. My moods were horrible. One night while lying in bed the whole left side of my body went numb. It started with my arm and then extended to my whole left side. I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I went to my parents and had my father check my blood pressure, which turned out to be extremely high. This freaked me out. I started getting light headed. My body was still half numb. My chest started hurting. My mother went and got my husband who then took me to the hospital. They ran several tests and turned out I had a severe panic attack, something I never had in my life before taking Yasmin. They told me they didn't think Yasmin had anything to do with it. I told another individual about my situation. She told me her daughter was on Yasmin and had a stroke. The girl had no prior medical conditions. I am up for a class action.

wow, I am so glad I came across this site. I was diagnosed with a cysts on my ovary, after discussion of another surgerey ( I had my right ovary removed due to a cyst in Mar2007) It was suggested I go on bcp. So my doctor gave me Yasmin. I took it for the first time yesterday, by evening I started to get a migrain, which is somewhat normal for me, but this morning I woke up with swollen sore eyes, discharge like sever eye infections and the headache is persistent and still around the eye area.

After reading about your daughters conditions, Im not taking any chances and will try switching to another brand.

thank-you

I went through the exact same thing your daughter went through, four years ago, I endured everything your daughter did. I was 31 years old, and it was the worst thing that could ever happen to me. My anxiety and panic attacks lasted for almost six months. I never thought that this was related to the Yasmin, until today. The reason being, I stopped taking Yasmin four months ago, to give my body a rest (since I have taken it for so long). Needless to say, I started to take it again last month and I have started having migranes and my anxiety level has risen again. I Googled 'Yasmin and Migranes' and came across this site. After reading what everyone has said, I defintely agree that my incidents were caused from Yasmin. The anxiety and panic attacks that I endured, led me to research the disorder extensively, and everything led back to it being genetic. No one in my family (immediate) has ever suffered a panic attack. Needless to say, it was very frustrating to be told that this and that is wrong with me, and now I finally know what it really was Yasmin. Today is the day that I will investigate a way to file a class action lawsuit. I wish the best for your daughter.

I would totally agree with your post about Yasmin. I took it for a month andwas so depressed m, I could not get off of it soon enough. My doctor said wait until the third week and I did, but I was in an extreme depressive state. I also tried effexor and it had terrible side effects on me they also
prescribed too string a dosage. After reading these blogs Yasmin should be investigated by the FDA or another group and so should effexor. Some Dr/s are sold on these medications by the pharmaceutical companies, nut do not have the exoerience of taking them. My mother also knows about five people who took yaz and were depressed and she was only aware because of what I told her. There needs to be more awareness and any physician who rebrescribes a medication that is unhelpful does not listen and is putting a person in danger. Some Dr.s think their God and act like you do not know what is going on with your body. The pharmaceutical co.
want to make $, a class action suit makes sense.

I just wanted to let all of you know who are complaining about Yasmin causing cysts that Yasmin is supposed to decrease the risk of ovarian cysts. I had a ruptured ovarian cyst and went on Yasmin and have had no further problems. Some people are just prone to cysts and Yasmin cannot be expected to cure this, but you cannot blame it for causing them. Also, if you're experiencing a negative side effect from taking Yasmin and it's listed in the little white book that the medication comes with then you can't complain because you are simply experiencing something that the drug manufacturers warned you that you might experience. People should also be aware that if you want to find people who will complain about the same things then you can find them out there and that you cannot use all of these opinions as cold, hard truth and absolute certainty.

I ws on Yaz for approx. 3-4 months and I had a manic episode and was in the hospital for 10 days because of it. Even with my history I never had a manic episode, my NP said that it was from Yaz. So if you get enough people I am on board for a class action suit. I was taking Yaz for poly cystic ovaries.

I just stumbled across this, no idea if it's reputable of not. Good luck!! Yasmin (and every other form of bc pill my doctor continued to prescribe me) gave me depression, but since this can't be scientifically verified there is nothing I can do. I hope the real dangers of the contraceptive pill get revealed one day.

I am 45 years old and given yasmin to relieve "peri menopausal" symptoms. I took this pill for 6 months and suffered a pulmonary embolism. this is most unusual since i am very healthy and have had no significant health issues. please be warned. when i first presented to the hospital they thought it might be a heart attack since the symptoms are fairly similar. i am on warfarin for at least 6 months to prevent another blood clot.

This site seems to be a scare everybody site. First off.... read about the side effects. If you think you have any... STOP taking the medication. Secondly, blood clots and pulmonary embolism are possibilities with ANY bc pill. Depending on your bodies chemistry is how you will react. I have been on yaz for about 2 years and have been doing fine. Mind you, this is after I had tried 12 other ones and had horrible experinces. The others included depo and orthotrycycline, birth control methods that most people have no reaction. I hope you all realize that since all your isssues were listed in the side effects pamphlet you will lose the suit because taking the medication is a acknowledgment that read and accept the risk of those side effects. Take responsibility. No medication is a miracle and you shouldn't expect it to be. All medications have risks. Yaz is no different.

All you assholes on here saying that we need to read the fine print in the Yasmin papers. Well first off, these type of things that happen from pills are in fact side effects. Now I realize that the extent of the side effects can vary depending on the person. However, lots of these girls having these issues are very young and in fact quite healthy. Now tell me that a pill should cause somebody all this tremendous pain and trouble all while stacking up doctor bills. If fact, if all FDA approved pills did this, then good luck with your insurance plan because I promise you wouldn't even be able to afford all the co-pays you would be spending at all these different doctors. For example, if you have a respitory infection, a doctor can prescribe you Amoxicillin. Oh and yes there is side effects for Amoxicillin. So you take the Amoxicillin and then you wind up getting loads of side effects like depression, panic attacks, mild strokes, collapsed lungs, etc and basically go to numerous doctors trying to determine all your problems and now I guess its the user's fault right???? Since I didn't read all the side effects it caused. Lets get it straight dummies, YES PILLS can cause side effects but there are still relatively safe pills for consumers to take and while yes BC pills can cause side effects, NONE should be the extent that Yaz or Yasmin has caused. There aren't any miracle drugs, but no pills should cause you more doctor visits and more treatments, thus making your overall health worse along with draining your pocket book. The few posters above me obviously have no common sense with their posts and it shows how stupid some people can actually be. These are the same people who probably go to the ER when they stub their toe. We aren't talking about occasional Yasmin headaches folks, we are talking about severe long term/short term side effects and medical conditions. So yes in fact, Yasmin will have to pay out because of all the complaints and documented issues. That I promise will happen.

My daughter was put on yasmin for irregular periods. She is 18. After only one month on this medication, she started getting short of breath, and having pains in her chest and left arm. We spent three nights in one week, in the emergency room, We saw two different doctors whom both said that the yasmin wouldn't cause this. They gave her medication for anxiety, once they found out that she was a nursing student and said that school work was causing the anxiety. I know my daughter too well to believe this. I took her back to her gynecolegist, and she also said that the yasmin wasn't the cause. I asked her to just humor me and switch the birth control pills. I knew that the yasmin was the only thing different in her life, and that had to be the culprit. She switched the medication. The symptoms dissapeared almost immediately.

I took ya about two years ago for a period of six months in which I noticed I was sad and moody. I would cry for no reason. I was going through a tough time and the side effects from this just made it worse. I was off the pill for about six months then got on it again, I'm taking it now and just yesterday I had a panic attack when I woke up. I was just crying over nothing, I feel like I'm going crazy. So today I was watching tv and I see thecommercial for the yaz and yasmin lawsuits. I got online and came across this. I never associated my depression to ya since its supposed to actually help with those moody symptoms. I know yaz and yasmin are diff pills. I'm on yaz I'm 29 yrs old and I'm going to the doctor this week to switch to another pill. The advice and stories on this forum were very helpful. Thanks to all you girls.

I started yasmin as it was recommended by my dermotologist and gyno. I loved the pill...felt no side effects, and felt less bloated and my skin looked a bit better....

Then, about 8 or 9 months into taking it...I developed a blood clot that went from my calf all the way to my pelvis. It was concluded that the pill was a factor in my getting a clot. I was only 26 at the time...it was scary...and I feel lucky that I did not have an embolism.

What is going on with the class action suit?

I am glad I am not the only one that has had medical problems due to taking Yasmin. I took Yasmin roughly around 2003-2005 when my specialist told me stop it right now and can not have any other type of hormones ever. At this time I was 27 years old and suffered from blood clots in my knee, leg, and foot. I had to have 2 surgerys in 24 hours and was told that if they clotted again they would have to amputate my foot, I at that point developed severe anxiety and depression not to mention all the doctor bills because no one could figure out why I had such horrible pain in my legs and foot, so the doctors were not even thinking it could be blood clots because they informed that that just does not happen to 27 year olds. So by the time they figured it out I could not walk on my foot it was purple and cold as ice. So now due to that I have nerve damage in the my foot and I have to take Coumadin (blood thinner) for the rest of my life and not have any type of hormones. My doctor stated that the blood clots were caused by the Yasmin. Also over the last year I have began to have liver problems which I read as one of the side effects still seeing doctors for that. I would love to be involved in a class actions suit I don't want anyone else to go threw what I have gone through over the last few years and will have to deal with for the rest of my life!!

I am a healthy 27 year old white female and started taking Yasmin in November 2003 until February 2008, stopped for a few months, then started again in May 2008 until January 2009, and then switched to the generic brand, Ocella. I have not had any serious problems but I do get occasional headaches and tightening in my chest. For as long as I can remember, I've always had symptoms of IBS and I've had 2 colonoscopies that have found no problems. I have (better than) normal blood pressure and I even requested an EKG in January because of the tightening in my chest but it was healthy and normal. Other than slight weight gain, moodiness - which is usually all the time, and losing my sex drive (which I directly attribute to Yasmin), it doesn't seem to have caused any SERIOUS problems so far. However I am now considering going off it because of everything I've read here and I now have different insurance and it costs too much. Also for the last year or so, the only real reasons I'm taking it are for acne and menstruation regulation, so I don't really want to risk any other serious problems if I'm not even taking it for the real reason it's meant for - prevention of pregnancy. Abstinence is a much better option, safer all around and no scary medicines to take. Thank you all for your help.

I am a now healthy 19 yr. old. I started taking yasmin in June of 2007. When I first started taking it, absolutely no side effects, but as I continued on things seemed to get worse. I kept telling my boyfriend at that time (now husband) that something wasn't right. I would have horribly painful periods, I had serious moodswings, I felt depressed and now one understood me. My vision was getting worse quicker than it should, and I also had chest pain. I stopped taking Yasmin in March of 2008 and some of those "side effects" didn't stop until Early August of 2009. I finally feel healthy again and I am never going near birth control also because of what happened.

I started taking Yasmin in 2004 and stopped taking it in 2007. At first I thought that it was great because it cleared up my acne, but then I started noticing that I was really emotional all the time. I would cry for no reason at all. I blamed it on stress at the time since I was planning a wedding and going to grad school, but then came a time in my life where I was not stressed and I was still feeling over emotional. I also was having some other problems-after intercourse I would have horrible stomach pains. They were so intense that I couldn't even get up or walk for 5-10 mintutes. I also would bleed during intercourse. Finally, one day I decided to research my birth control on the internet. I found many forums that blamed Yasmin for similar problems. I made an appointment with my doctor to switch to a different pill. It ended up that I didn't need to switch pills-I was pregnant. Yes, I got pregnant while taking the Yasmin birth control. Best thing that ever happened to me, but obviously unplanned. Now I don't take birth control and I am not having any of those previous problems. I totally blame the Yasmin for the crying and for the pain and bleeding during intercourse. I would not recommend this pill to anyone. My nurse midwife said that the pill didn't cause those problems, but I know in my heart that it did and that is enough for me.

I have been on Yasmin for 4 years with no negative side effects. Just remember that everyone reacts differently. I'm glad everyone is sharing their experiences to help others that may not understand their reactions to this pill. However, it should not be used as a scare tactic. Everyone should be cautious, read the fine print, consult with your doctor, and keep an eye on any symptoms. And perhaps we shouldn't be putting all of our teenage daughters on birth control for "painful cramps" or "irregular periods". Give her a tampon and a tylenol. If we stopped the overmedication of this country's youth, perhaps accounts of these types of issues would decline. Best of luck to all.
