I am 21 years old and my doctor prescribed me 20mg of Adderall to take twice a day. I've been taking it for about a week (only in the morning, I'm still too wound up to take it 4 hours later!) and I have already lost 10lbs. Also I've been having trouble breathing deeply, chest pain, tingling in my arms and legs, and no appetite whatsoever. Are these symptoms normal?

Those are one of the side effects but the dosage seems to high if you are still feeling the effects in the afternoon. One question though at what time do you take it in the morning?

That dosage is way too high. You should only be taking 5mg-10mg a day. Not 40mg! That is so much.

Wow, I know it's months later, but I'm EXACTLY in that situation! Im prescribed 20-40mg Adderall daily. Im 21 and am super stressed from school. I've had slight trouble breathing from extreme stress from school and have been freaking out because it would get worse with the adderall, I'd get slight chest pains and tingling in my peripherals. So many times I had myself convinced that I was going to have a heart attack. Once I even had a panic attack and thought it was a heart attack. .....I came to the conclusion that the adderall is increasing my sympathetic nervous system which is making the stress/anxiety worse, hence more exaggerated symptoms (along with maybe a higher dose than needed), I'd be WORRYING about my "problems" health/school/work/life 24-7........ Well after I figured this out I've been able to relax more and the symptoms are half what they were or gone...It would be cool to see how you turned out and whats goin on now. It crazy how the mind can effect your body..adderall only exaggerates that...especially when its wearing off.

I know I'm a little late in posting a reply but I take 10mg in the morning and that is it. I'm supposed to take 2 a day but if I do, I get the chest pains, shortness of breath, tingling, complete loss of appetite and I don't sleep at all that night. However, if I just take 1 10mg, I'm fine for the whole workday and ready to eat at dinnertime.

I'm not sure if you've already received sufficient answers for your question and I know I am a little late to reply, but I'll go ahead a post anyway. My first question; are you taking Adderall XR or regular Adderall? If you are taking regular, you should talk to you doctor about switching to 20 mg of Adderall XR once a day. The difference is Adderall XR initially releases some medication, then releases more four hours later. This may help with your restlessness/hyperactivity. Also Adderall tightens the muscles in your chest, which in rare cases, can press against the pericardial sac, which is a sac of fibrous tissue that surrounds the heart and the roots of the great blood vessels. The pressure against the pericardial sac can ever so slightly decrease blood flow to your extremities. The tingling sensation you are feeling is the result of the muscles in your arms and legs receiving less blood/oxygen than normal. Also, the reason you are having trouble breathing deeply is because when your body takes in a breath of air your lungs and your diaphragm expand. More specifically, your diaphragm pushes up against the muscles in your chest, causing more pressure on the pericardial sac. A potential solution to this problem would be to decrease the dosage, if not suspend the use of Adderall until a definitive answer to your problems can be ascertained.
Hope this helps!
Kindly,
Ryan
