I would like to stop taking paxil, I have been on it for 3 yrs. When I skip my medicine I get what feels like electrical shocks in my neck & head. I wasnt sure if I had a pinched nerve at 1st but began to associate this with the event that I had not taken my meds. I also have onset of panic attacks & rapid heart, & terrible terrible forgetfulness, as to even what cabinet I would like to open, I open the wrong one, go into the wrong doorway, wrong driveway. I am very concerned. I have told my Dr. that I would like to get off this Paxil but Ive been told that it would be best since I was suffering from anxiety attacks in past. I would like to be committed to be able to handle the withdrawls. If anyone has been successful in stopping Paxil and now feels pretty back to normal, please let me know. Thanks

I feel for you. There is a wonderful supportive website with forum on paxil, it's called paxilprogress.org. Please chk it out, there is a lot of support there from people that have been where you are now. , I also took Paxil, and that website literally saved me, and helped me get thru the withdrawals, and decision to quit the drug. Pls visit paxilprogress.org.

Also, you must slowly wean yourself off Paxil, a very slow process, to reduce the withdrawals. This will be discussed on paxilprogress.org. Good luck to you.

I also take Paxil and have for several yrs now. The side effect I get is that I am always hot. I can't stand the hot weather and will sweat at the drop of a hat. When I first went on it I told my dr the side effects I was having and he told me to let him know how I handled the cold weather. Well the cold winters don't bother me at all now. I should move to Alaska.

I know exactly how you feel. I have been taking paxil for 6 years. I was so scared of coming off of it because I heard about all the horrible withdrawal systems. I want to get pregnant soon so I was really determined to get off this horrible drug. Well, I want you to know that I have been paxil free for 10 days and I feel great. I decided to take it extremely slow. I was on 40 mg in March of 07. I dropped down to 30mg for about 3 months and then to 20mg in June. Then in july went down to 10mg. Then I spent about 4 weeks tapering down from 5mg to 2.5mg. My last month I went down to 2.5mg every other day. On October 16 I took my last pill. The only side effect I had was that I became very angry and bitchy. I fought with my husband all the time. Thankfully he knew what I was going through so he didn't take it personally. The anger started about 4 days after I switched dosage and lasted about a week. Once my body got used to it I felt great. I also stopped smoking in April which I believed helped and I stopped drinking coffee in July. I found that caffine gave me panic attacks. I started taking a multivitamin and B12. My doctor also reccommended fishoil. That worked miracles. When I first started going off of it I felt drunk. I was very dizzy and I couldn't see straight. The day after I started taking the fish oil I felt great. All those symptoms went away. I took about 3-4 pills a day. Now that I am off paxil I still take b12, a multivitamin, and the fish oil. So far I have had none of those horrible side effects. Just put your mind to it and you will be able to do it. Just take your time. There is no rush to come off paxil. Once you do it will be worth it. I feel so incredible now and I am so proud of myself for getting off this drug. Haven't had a panic attack yet and hope I never will. Good luck. Just know that there are people out there who are going through what you have been going through. You are not alone. Remember not everyone has horrible withdrawal systems. Beat the odds. I did!!!!

When you pinch your neck and you get that shooting pain in your head? That to me is what the brain zaps are like. I have been on Paxil for 4 years. I am very angry with my Dr. for not telling me about the Paxil withdrawal symptoms. I have been on the 12.5 pills and have been cutting in half for about 8 days now. I have taken the advice of others on this site and am taking sublingual B-12, a multi vitamin and fish oil. So far I am okay. Have a selfish husband though, so sometimes the stress is really hard to handle. Tomorrow I am going to try and quarter my tablets. If that is too much, I will call my Dr. and see if he will give me liquid paxil to make the remaining cut backs more gradual. Yesterday I didn't cut my pill evenly and took the really small portion. I have that weird feeling when I move my eyes today. Good luck to all and keep posting what works for you. This medication is HORRIBLE

do not stop over night...depending on your dosage, you must taper off VERY GRADUALLY, and still, you may have swishing sounds in your head and a sense of vertigo with eye movement especially...Listen to your doctor's advice about quitting SLOWLY. Believe me, I tried to stop abruptly and for six weeks I was walking as if I had to duck from the sky. I went back on my regular dosage when I found out how much good it was doing...aside from the withdrawals...racing thoughts, repeating thoughts, evil to friends, basically, horrible...I plan to stay on it until menopause is over! God Bless!

I hope there are some of you out there still reading these post's. I have been taking paxil for over 10 years. I was started on it after suffering panic attacks in the Marine Corps that started after my experience in the Gulf War. I have always wanted to stop and on one occassion I did but no where near the correct way. I was fine for about a week and then was pounded by panic. Today I still take the medicine but no more than a minute goes by that I do not want to be free from it. The symptoms I feel arfe the same as everyone else has described. Sweat at the drop of a hat, hot all the time, dry mouth, sex is very tough, shock feeling when I miss a dose, and a weird shock sensation that feels like it is connected to my eye's some way and when I move my eye's to either side I feel the shock. The only reason that I do not stop the medicine is that I have not found a good tru alternative. I am more terrified of the panic attacks than I am of the medicine side effects!! I also heard about the multi-vitamine, B-12, and fish oil. I got all of them but have trouble remembering to tak them. I got a larger pill carrier and I plan to start on this coming Sunday. I will let you know if it makes a differance.
