i had my done in june this year. i have a period that is longer then before. that will last 7 to 9 days. then i will quit bledding for 3 to 4 days and then i will spot till my period will start. i been very moody and sad with it. i also get acne. for the past couple of days i been getting numnus in my left hand from it. your not the only one. i'm going to get a hold of the obgyn to get it removed. it's just that some people body is having a hard time accepting it. i had my share of proublems with birth plans in the past. i can't take the pills or the shot because my body won't accept it. with the nuva ring i can't use it because of my medication. i got pregnant before with the plan b. which that don't work. now i can't use the iud. the only thing i know i can use is the spermicide.
I have had the IUD for about 6 months now. Barley this week I have put together all the side effects and now know that Mirena is causing them. I am 21 years old with no kids ( i have no idea why my doctor recomended this). I have been getting acne about for the past two months and HAIR loss, hair thinning. I thought it was just stress so I took a ligher class load and starting going to the gym 3 times a week, but it just kept getting more thin. After much online research i have found that many women are experiencing Hair Thinning at the top of their heads. I have also been getting really stomach cramps from this. I am going to take this thing out tomorrow. I cant wait. I hope all these side effects go away right away. Thanks for sharring
I got the IUD in November 2006. Since then I starting losing patches of hair (the size of a quarter or larger) completely to the shiny white scalp. After 3-4 months when the hair did not grow back I decided to call my family doctor who looked at my scalp and told me I had Alopecia Areata and referred me to a dermatologist. Alpoecia is an auto immune disease that causes your system to attack the hair as if it were a virus. The dermatologist looked at the area and confirmed it to be Alopecia Areata (Hair Loss) and offered Cortisone injections to accelerate the regrowth process and centralize the loss. She also referred me to a lab to have my Thyroid tested which was fine. The hair loss has been going on for over a year now and I have lost about 40% volume which is a very hard pill to swallow for a woman (or at least this one). The other symptons I was experiencing is aggressiveness, mood swings, depression and change in urine color (darkened). I attributed these to the hair loss and the stress of being told I may go bald at any time with out notice. I also visited my family doctor and requested depression meds which he did not give me. Finally, I decided in February 2008 to search the internet for "IUD and Hair Loss" and WA'LA' , look what I found. If you would like to see other stories- many more, check out the search, you may learn of some other symptons as well. As for me, I had the IUD removed today and feel better already. I will keep everyone posted. Keep your post flowing for the woman out there that are considering this thing. It may discourage them from this mental/physical abuse this thing caused me.
Good Luck!
I've had the Mirena since April '08, and over the past 2 weeks, I have noticed clumps of my hair falling out. If you barely run your fingers through the ends of my hair, 5-10 strands come out at a time, in a section, it's almost like someone pulled a clump of hair out. I'm sure you ladies can relate! I started thinking of everything that could be wrong causing my hair to fall out when it started a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't match up with any of the conditions. My husband suggested maybe it was the Mirena, and now I am convinced that this is the culprit, especially after reading hundreds of other stories about hair loss and the Mirena. And then of course, I had to add 2 & 2 together - I didn't have this problem UNTIL I get the Mirena! I am only 20 years old, this is very depressing for me. I feel like I'm in the prime of my life, and I don't want to lose my hair. :-( It feels very belittling as a woman, every time I take a shower I start to cry. This is not hair breakage ladies, every hair is coming out by the root, the hairs are not broken. So it's not a cosmetic problem so to say. I am consulting with my doctor tomorrow about having it taken out. I also have lived with severe cramping since I've had the Mirena, so bad it feels like my labor pains did & I double over. I also haven't had a cycle since the intial bleeding from insertion stopped. I was not told that hair loss was a side effect and didn't read it in any of the paperwork I was given. I feel cheated, robbed, & lied to! A woman's hair is her glory, & there's many, many of us being robbed of that! I am just waiting to see the advertisement on tv from attorney's wanting Mirena users to 'take action' - Same as a lot of other birth controls which I'm sure many of you have seen.
