I was on Singulair for about 5-6 years and I rarely had an asthma...

I was on Singulair for about 5-6 years and I rarely had an asthma attack. I had the vivid dreams that are common with Singulair, but that didn't bother me. I also had the occasional earache, but it was tolerable. My last 3 months of taking this drug, I started "seeing things." I would see shadows darting out of the corner of my eye. At the time I was waitressing and I went out to wait on a table that I thought was there. When I looked up to take their order, there was no one there. One night I almost got into an accident because I thought a car was behind me that was tailing me when there wasn't one. It was at that point that I really started to freak out. I thought I was going insane, possibly schizophrenia. One day I was flipping through a magazine and happened to see an ad for Singulair. I read through all the fine print and saw that a rare side effect was hallucinations! It all made sense at that point and I knew I wasn't going crazy! I stopped taking Singulair and then started to have breathing problems (I wasn't taking anything for my asthma at that point). I went to the doctor and he laughed when I told him about the hallucinations being from Singulair. He told me to go back on it and see if it happened again. The second or third day I started to see shadows again. I lasted about a week and then just stopped and went to Advair. It doesn't help much. It makes me really sad that Singulair did this to me. It was the only time in my life where I didn't have to worry about breathing. Now I have to take prednisone about twice a year, which I never had to do on Singulair. I just wanted to write this in case anyone else was experiencing anything similar.

This is very interesting, I have been on Advair 500/50 for several years with wonderful results, I'm static asthmaticus, have arrested etc but due to the breakthrough with asthma medications and a wonderful doctor, I'm under control. You really must give the Advair a chance but your doctor has to put you on a reducing dose of prednisone as introducing the Advair. I'm not a doctor,, just experience. Now regarding the Singulair, he did put me on this maybe 6 to 9 months ago. I pulled up the side effects but just found in children it gave them nightmares. Months go on and sleeping is just horrible, everything going through my sub con. a mess. This by the way was given to me because of the horrible sinus infections which it cleared up. My doctor wouldn't give it when it first came out for asthma, told me "not for you". Recently I went to the net again not for Singulair but for something else and found, if taking an antihistamine or another drug, the brain acts very weird and the cortex, etc etc. Sooo this answered my question. I think. Now this is the extreme >>>>> just the last couple of weeks I'd seen a shadow or a something to make me turn my head and think, "my gosh, someone on the other side is really trying to contact me"
I know, don't laugh but I am a believer, anyway, the shadows have happened more than once therefore this is something I need to be aware of and so happy I was able to read your report. I've been worried about the fat fat cheeks I have thinking maybe it's due to the Advair 500/50 but believe me, I'd rather have fat cheeks than not being able to breathe which was the case for 20 odd years. I've been attack free for nearly 14 years due to my wonderful doctor and the great scientists in their fight against this very crippling disease. Excuse any typo's in this reply, a reply is something I never do>>> I just had to reply to this woman. Don't give up on Advair, go to a doctor who understands your need and will work with you in an aggressive manner to stabilize your breathing. If you were in San Francisco I could point you to my Internist, now that's also the word, Internist not a GP, there are many levels of the Advair also. Puleeeze go to an Internist, prednisone also works on the brain and has the most horrible side effects, worse than Singulair. What do you want to do, lead a normal life and breathe or put up with these little shadows. You know now about these shadows as you have informed me. I'm aware now. I'm not knocking your doctor, I just know how intense my doctor worked with me when myGP sent me to him.
good health
