Was put on Toprol XL while in the hospital. Taking 50 mg along with 50 mg of Vasotec. Discontinued the Vasotec because of cough. Put on Cozaar. Dr also prescribed hydrochlorothiazide which I decided not to take. For a month I was lethargic, no appetite or thirst, worsened sleep problems, and MAJOR depression. Started to research and decided it was the Toprol. On Wednesday I cut the dosage in half, by Saturday I started feeling more like my old self. By the following Wednesday I was back to normal as far as I could tell. Cut the dosage in half again and a week later, stopped Toprol all together. Best decision I ever made!!!!!

hey, I know what you mean about feeling like yourself again. The whole time I was on toprol I just didn't feel like myself and didnt feel like I could think. I felt like I was in a fog. I am off of it now,, almost 6 weeks and I am very glad.
Good Luck!!

Thank you for telling us about your experience, it offers hope. I've been on this blasted medication for over two years (50mg) for an irregular heartbeat and my side effects are now at a point of being far worse than the heartbeat problem. I have tried to cut back, but when I've tried my pulse goes up, blood pressure gets high, and I get sharp chest pains that scare me. I wondered if anyone got back to their old self after this medication, and you have made me feel like at least I have a chance......thanks, and take care, Judi
