I had been on Cozaar off and on for about three years. Although the medication did bring my blood pressure down, my weight steadily increased, and no matter what I did, I could not lose a pound. I was tired, depressed, and my vision changed for the worse. I had increased urination, and I also developed a strangling type cough, and would have coughing fits every now and then. I experienced light headedness and a loss of concentration. Initially I did not attribute these symptoms to Cozaar, because they came on gradually. I never needed glasses before Cozaar, my appetite was the same, and I was not on any other prescription drug. About 6 months ago, I decided to ween myself off of Cozaar. During that time I have lost about 20 lbs, without dieting--eating the same way I did on Cozaar. My concentration and energy level has increased, and my vision has improved--I don't need reading glasses anymore. My blood pressure fluctuates from normal to medium-high, so I am looking into more natural remedies to control it. Please remember that drugs treat the symptoms, not the disease.

I have been on cozaar for almost a year, and I do not like the way it makes me feel either, as a matter a fact I have not found one BP medication that doesn't have more than one side effect. It causes me to get dizzy, cough, itch and I cannot sleep well at all plus I am tired more than I used to be before I started it. I had bronchitis when I was put on it, and had just gotten out of the hospital, so why didn't the cardiologist that have them to me know that they shouldn't have been given to me? I had to find out on my own, the same way I did when he put me on a beta-blocker. My blood pressure wasn't what you would call high, but two years ago I had to have surgery for dissecting Aortic anyuresem on my heart. It was diagnosed as genetic, as my Mother also had the same thing. I came through everything very well and I am now 71. They told me that I needed the medication right afterwards, but I can understand that considering what I went through, but when I was admitted, my pressure was 118/70. Since the surgery my diastolic has always been lower than normal due to the type of surgery I had. I recently started weaning myself off of the cozaar, and my blood pressure this morning was 123/45, yesterday after taking the cozaar before going to bed the following day was 140/39. I weigh 93 lbs now, and weighed 102 at the time of the surgery. I am very health minded and take a lot of vitamins that are good for me and my heart and I have never smoked in my life. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might relate to my situation. I really do not have much faith in doctors anymore, other than the surgeons that do try to do their best in saving lives.
