I too am having many of the side effects listed on this site including chest pains, fatigue, shortness of breath, foggy head, dizziness, to name a few. I am wondering if anyone has had heartburn or an increase in heartburn while being on this drug. They have recently switched me from Toprol to the generic form, Metaprolol. More of these symptoms seem to have come on since switching to the generic. Any thoughts?

I read one of these posting and someone had increased symptoms after being switched to metroprol. I never had heartburn however my doctor did suggest that I start taking prilosec when I started toprol so it must be a common side effect. I had all the side effects you mentioned, foggy thinking, dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue. I hated it. I am off of it now and feel much better. Just be sure and talk with your doctor before you make any changes.

Hi, I personally turned down the generic. I found out it would only save me less than $5 and with what I've read about it I just didn't want to risk it. I too have many of the same symptoms you've described, I've been taking this for over two years, and on my next doctor visit I plan on finding a way to get off of this awful medication. I was put on it for an irregular heartbest, and the side effects are now worse than my original problem.
Also, the heartburn is common, which is why most pharmacists will tell you to not take it on an empty stomach. Good luck with this medication, you're gonna need it. Take care, JC

I HAVE BEEN ON TOPROL XL 50 NOW FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS. THAT IS WHEN I STARTED HAVING GASTROINTESTIONAL PROBLEMS AND WOUND UP TAKING TWO PRILOSEC`S DAILY FOR THE INDIGESTION. NOW THESE STOPPED WORKING, SO GUESS WHAT I INTEND TO ACCOMPLISH. COMPLETE REMOVAL OF THIS DRUG. ALSO HAVE CHEST DISCOMFORT, EXTREMLY LOW B/P COLDNESS IN HANDS AND FEET, TIREDNESS & DIARRHEA.. BYE BYE TOPROL. ALSO FORGOT THE DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY THING.
