I have been taking Neurontin for 1 week (300 mg 1x per day and then prescribed to increase to 300 mg 2x per day after 1st week). It has been incredible taking the pain away (hemi-vertibrae bone defect in neck with severe arthritis)!!! Like Oh my goodness wonderful!!! however - by the end of the day - i am 20 lbs bloated and feel like the weight gain is right around the corner... I am very aware of body ( I am a dancer) and need to know if this is going to balance out... i know the answer of it depends oneach person - but some insight would help me not panic right now

It seems to me that you have a real need for pain relief, but before you become "hooked" on Neurontin, I hope you'll do the same research I've been doing this morning. My doctor gave me this drug off label (as did yours) for restless legs and neuropathy. I immediately began gaining weight and four years later was up about 35 lbs. I also have had anxiety attacks which I had never had before and now seems can be attributed to the Neurontin. I was researching how to wean myself from Neurontin and am very shocked to find that it will be very difficult to get off. I will probably have more anxiety problems as well as rebound pain in my legs, along with inability to fall asleep. I saw where one individual was going to go to a doctor specializing in addiction to help him wean off. I'm considering doing that since my GP isn't too sympathetic to "addictions". Well, she's not sympathetic to much else either LOL. Oh.. another major complication is the loss of memory, loss of ability to think of words that are right on the tip of your tongue. I have definately had this problem and thought I might be having early Alzheimer's symptoms.

Anyway, here's hoping you can find another med for pain. I know how debilitating pain can be having suffered lower back pain for over a year. But these side effects from Neurontin are not worth it.

I've been taking Neurontin for about 4 months now. When I started it, I was also getting epidural steroid injections in my back. Within two weeks, I'd gained 15 lbs. I finally leveled out after gaining 20. I tried backing off the neurontin because of this, as well as memory problems I was having, but when I did I realized that the pain relief benefits were more important to me right now than the side effects. I hope this helps you.
