Hello, I was put on Prednisone for 12 days and made it through 11. It's been about 11 days since I've taken it and I'm still having symptoms. I have such bad anxiety and depression, mostly after dinner. My heart rate and blood pressure shoot up, and I have to pee every 15 mins. I had gone to the ER on the last day I was on it because I was having evil thoughts and crying uncontrollably. They told me it was probably steroidal psychosis and sent me to a shrink who now has me on Ativan until the Paxil she also prescribed me kicks in. Does ANYONE know how long this drug will be in my system? I took a tappered 12-day dose starting at 60mg. This drug may save lives, but it's really put hard times in mine. Any response is*****

My dad was put on Prednisone for almost a year and nearly died because of it. In fact, he would have died if we hadn't taken him to Shands, where they know how bad Prednisone is! It's been 7 months & he's still being monitored by his doctor to ensure that his organs are healing themselves. When he was on it, almost immediatly he had the same side effects that you are describing! It was really bad, and just kept getting worse. They say that Prednisone stays in your system for a year. Please be careful & consider seeing a doctor outside of your town (that's what we had to do) because that drug is so dangerous and lethal! I will never know why some doctors still use it.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggle with the side effects of Prednisone- and hope that it's over with. My 18 year old daughter was put on 60 mgs for 5 days due to an ear infection. There was no tapering off. Two weeks later, she experienced sudden severe depression and anxiety which brought her to the ER. ER doctor put her on anti-depressants (she has no Hx or family Hx of any psychiatric illness). We learned from a psychiatrist today that he believes she had a latent psychotic reaction to the Prednisone because it wasn't tapered off and was too high a dose. Makes me so sad and angry for her to have to gone through this unnecessarily. Why are physicians prescribing Prednisone this way???
