I have been on very high doses of prednisone and am still being weaned off it. It does have some side effects but everyone is different in their body's reaction to it. Sometimes (as in my case) it is the only treatment available. In my case it saved my eyesight. Considering the amount and duration of my prednisone treatment I have been doing OK but I am still on 7 mgs a day.
I would certainly call my doctor and question this dosage. If your doctor can not be reached then call your pharmacist. 1000mg is a massive dosage and you should be made aware of all side effects. The list is a mile long and some can be very dangerous. Please contact your doctor right away.
Don't TAKE that poison!!! Stay away from it....!! It will make you VERY sick at that high a dose....and could jeapordize your health permanently or could even kill you. Please see my post above...posted this date..

I would ask your doctor again 1000 is ALOT of this drug. I was only on 60 with massive side effects!!! Just reconfirm it with the dr and the pharmacist.
I was on 80 a day and by 2nd to 3rd day had side effects, I have been on a total of 4 days, and even 3 days after I stopped taking it, still have simptoms, like swollen ankles, and very numb left arm around middle to index finger, hurts so bad can't sleep, when I am up its just tingling, like prednisone caused some nerve damage
Optic Neuritis is one of the first signs of MS. I am being checked for this right now. I have all kinds of muscle pain, blurred vision, facial numbness and pain, tingling in my hands and feet and numb fingers. I have bladder problems, memory problems. My elbows feel like raw nerves. This has been going on over 10 yrs but has been really bad the last 3 years. Make sure you see a neurologist for the optic neuritis. I was told my mine that is a first sign of MS....Doesn't hurt to double check..Good Luck
