I've been on Prednisone after and allergic reaction to penicillin (Amoxicillin) (bullous pemphigold - large blister on my arms and legs, some on the back and very little on the stomach) I've been on the medication for three days (40mg/day) I cannot standup or move my hands, my entire leg hurts and the foot is swollen (it could be from the penicillin). I'm hoping it will go away after I come off prednisone but has anyone experienced long term pain from this drug? I'm pretty sure my pain is from the allergic reaction. Has anyone had long term pain from any type of bullous reaction?

Hi, I too have the swollen feet and, yes, it is from the prednisone. At one point my feet were so sweollen that the skin actually cracked and split. It did go down as the medication was decreased. An awful drug to be on for any length of time.

I was on high doses of prednisone for I.T. P. Immune thrombocytopinic purpura. I had leg cramps that kept me up all night. I have been in remission ffor several years. Due to allerigic reaction to kenalog- 40 from injiection I was prescribed 50 mg of prednisone for 5 days without a taper to lower doses. This has cause severe pain in my hip to my leg, and caused nerve damagein my right leg. I cannot feel (numbness) from my knee to just below my ankle.
I spent a week in the hospital, and a week home, I currently walk with a cane, I am still suffering pain. I am also allergic to narcotics, and several other drugs that are prescibed for pain. I am able to use a TENS unit to block some of the pain. Has anyone else had severe pain and ended up with similar nerver damage? Mahalo and Thanks from someone in Hawaii.

Hello,

about a week ago I admitted myself to ER because of terrible breakout of hives (never had them before) but was covered from head to toe.

Doctor prescribed PREDNISONE 80mg for 4 days, and gave me an IV with the drug a week ago saturday night (don't know how much was there), 12/29/07, I took my daily dose 80mg Sunday noon. I only slept about an hour or two. By new years eve 12/31, I have started getting cold chils, feeling unbearably cold, then the next day 1/1, I felt like I was 100 years old, all my joints were stiff, I coudn't get up from bed, couldn't sleep much but there is still more.

By wednesday I have felt even more stiff and hives were not going away, I went to the doctor (my stiffness went away after couple hours in the morning) he prescribed more PREDNISONe for another week, luckily I have stopped taking the medication after 4 days but I still have what I think are side ffects from taking it.

Ankles are still sore, I cannot sleep because an extreme numbness sets in my left hand middle to index finger, it is no numb it hurts like an elephant is sitting on it, that is why I am still up at 4:30 in the morning. When I am up it just tingles. Not sure what to do but can't sleep at all for last 3 days and getting really tired.

If I knew what prednisone does I would never take any of it, I'd rather deal with hives oh and they still didn't go away.

I am back on pred for asthma - used to take it all the time for crohns.

Started having the leg cramps again. Got used to that in 03. Quinine was the best med for that - but I found out that dr's can not write quin for leg cramps anymore.

Also, pred causes racing heart, high blood pressure, and diabetes in me. When on pred, I have to take insulin, as my sugars run in the mid 300's to 500.
