Maureen,
I too have suffered from a range of GI symptoms and have to take either omeprezole (which i believe is prilosec) or nexium in order to have normal hunger or not have a lot of pain.
I don't want to be negative, maybe you have an amazing doctor, but I would be a little concerned about your GI just sending you for a random test unless there is definitive symptoms and good follow-up about the results. I have run the gammot of those tests without finding really anything more out and learning more on my own and through other doctors. If the test makes remote sense, the dr may send you to it because it takes little time and makes more money than really sitting down and talking to you. I am not a doctor, but both of my parents are, so we can judge what is medically correct and we've seen some astounding lack of concern from GIs for significant symptoms, and it seems to be more so if the patient is female. It sounds like yours are decently severe, and a little concerning.
I never had symptoms like that, but i won't say that it isn't possible omeprezole causes those. what DOES sound wrong is why your doctor hasn't let you try Nexium instead of Prilosec. Nexium works better for a lot of people than prilosec for a lot of people. Anyway, it might help and at the same time would be an easy way to test whether these symptoms are from your prilosec, or as your doctor thinks (and i bet too) something more serious than side effects. It sounds like gallstones match the location and timing of your pain however. I would be interested to know how your scan turned out.
hope you feel better!

I have been taking omeprazole for the last 4 years and i have not had any side affect, what so ever.
Yes, I have had the same symptoms. I have taken Omeprozole (prilosec) for many years for acid reflux. I now have a huge amount of fundic gastric polyps, (Severe stomach pain that is said to not be from the polyps) that makes me go lay down until it passes. Non-Menopause related Sudden Stomach pain followed by Severe Hot flushing with nausia that wakes me at night and is present throughout the day. Especially if I let myself get hungry and also again after eating. This stomach pain also is easily confused with being hungry all the time, therefore, I have had excessive weight gain. It was thought that I had gallstones, there were no stones, the gallbladder was hypo-functioning and not releasing, as found on a Gamma Scan of the gallbladder. Galbladder was removed in 2000, stomach pain has persisted. Now I am having problems with enlarged liver and elevated liver enzymes. MRI showed diverse fatty liver. My liver has now filled with fat and is not functioning properly. Where this has led me is I am now considered disabled and un-able to do my job as a Jr. Scientist in research. I can't stand to be off the omeprozole as the gastric reflux returns right away after a missed dose. Only other medication I take is Atenolol and I am told that these effects I am experiencing are not from the Atenolol. I believe that these problems I have are from Omeprozole use. My Gastro Dr. says to keep taking the Omeprozole!
