My 12-year old son has been high dose prednisone for his asthma flare ups. I know that the "moon face" is common. However, since using this prednisone, he has bad acne breakouts on his forehead, cheeks, chin and even in his head. He also has broken out in a rash on his neck. Common or uncommon? There seems to be nothing to help with the acne, either.

Hi, I am in my late 30's and also have asthma. A number of years ago, after being on high doses of steroids for a week or more, was finally hosiptalized and given more by IV. After being out of the hospital for almost a week, I consulted my dermatologist and was given the diagnose of "steroid induced acne". YUCK! It was summer and there was nothing to do for me, other than wait for the drugs that had saved my life, to work their way out of my system.Good luck!

Hi, I'm 23 and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis on 8/15/07 and have been on prednisone since then. I spend two weeks in the hospital with high doses of solumedrol injections and then back home on 60 mg of prednisone which caused HORRIBLE acne! I was able to completely get rid of the acne with Extra Strength Proactiv Solution used twice a day. I couldn't believe how bad my face looked! There was a single spot on my face that didn't have a red bump. It took about three weeks for the proactiv to clear it up and it was really dry and looked worse for the first couple of days but now it is completely clear... no bumps at all. I'm on 40mg of prednisone now and have gained about 10lbs. I have a terrible moon face! Does anyone have a suggestion for the moon face? I'd rather have moon face than acne, but if there is a way to get rid of it, I would love that! How long after being off prednisone does it take for the face to return to normal?
