60 yr old/young female: I started generic toprol (metoprolol 50mg xr) yesterday (11/22/07). Took about 3:00 PM. The next morning around 6:00 AM, I had a hot flash that equated to one you would have if you had taken niacin. Body was burning and I was sweating. Looked in the mirror to see if I was flushed, because of the severity of the hot flash I thought my body would be totally red. It wasn't. I called my pharmacist to report this event. He researched and found no evidence of such. He did say that it did not rule out the possibility that it was caused by the Toprol. Asked me to keep him posted as his customers were the ones that helped him be able to report side effects to other. Well I found this site and low and behold I have read of the hot flashes and all of the other problems. I will not be taking this medication. I am not a pro medication person anyway and related that to my dr, but at some point you feel you have to have trust in someone. I don't trust medications. I know at some point in my life I will probably have to take something, but not Toprol. Sounds as though it will cause more problems than it will cure. Thanks so much for your input. It will prevent me from having to wean myself off this mess. Oh yeah, I was also feeling the depressed, anxiety mentioned. Not at a high level , but just knew I wasn't myself. That was after just one dose. I can't imagine how it would have progress. I feel very blessed.

I was prescribed Tropol xl by my cardo man, but lowest dosage, but I told him nothing has depression side effects, but in the 3 rd day my feet begun to swell up so much more even my calfs, they all started to throb, so I just stopped it pronto. by the 3 rd day, i call my dr. and left mes. but the nurse said I should have weaned off, 1st how? I asked, We said oh in 3 day no need too,she then had dr. notes to me, He said for me to stop. See before I was on sulgar 10 mg. (calcium channel blocker,) for a yrs,. but begun to have my feet swollen up again, and since I can not take nifidedine, 3 day swollen feet, I had previously be on for several yrs, Dynacacire had no problems, but my drug company would not despense them,. thus I called every pharmancy was on 2.5 mg no problem, so for 1 yrs, I have had problems, Now I find out I did not need a calcium channel blocker, just a beta blocker, well, I will not take anything that has any side effects, I already take neurotin, then the generic gababentin for neuropathy in my feet, numb toes and feet and thru test, specialist said thru test shows I already have it in my hands too. The generic is so so, I can feel the difference, right away. The neurontin is much more helpful as far as pain goes , especially now cold feet feel it more w. cold weather coming on.
Taking 600mg 1 tb at nite, makes for good sleeping.and
I also was told to take 1-2 tbs of 100 mg 2 x a day. am & afternoon.

last yr this time, I only took only took 300 mg at bedtime could not tolerate it during the day time, but it made me sleep like a baby.

I am really concerned that I do need a beta blocker, but hate the side effects, Does anyone know if the neuropathy cause more side effects on my feet. w./ any drugs.

would appreciate any replies,
