I had the Mirena IUD inserted in September 2007... BIG MISTAKE! I paid $550.00 for the stupid IUD & another 225.00 for doctor fees!! Okay here's my story.. I have three children, 26 yrs old, married, 120/122 pounds.. can stay in shape/get in shape easily, happy, VERY short 3-4 day periods.. BEFORE Mirena.. Now.. its been 7 weeks.. And even though I keep to the same diet, I have gained 8 pounds! I have been on a period & constantly spotting for 15 DAYS~ oh yeah.. AND bad, bad, bad, BLOATING!! Yesterday I had Severe Cramps- my doctor is out of town so the nurse actually called in muscle relaxers to help with the pain.. I was in TEARS yesterday. I NEVER EVER had menstrual cramps before.... to make things worse..I am so moody & I hate my quick temper. I have never had acne, but now I get a few spots.. not so bad, but I shouldn't have any. I feel like I don't have control over my body. My appointment is for this Thursday.. I am getting this thing removed, so I can return to normal! Before getting this awful thing ( which hurts when inserted & bad cramps afterward) I was using NuvaRing for two months.. I did not have any of these bad side effects with NuvaRing... I am going to try that again. IN SHORT.. I PAID over $800.00 for severe cramping, 15 day long periods, constant spotting, brown discharge, EXTREME BLOATING, huge weight gain, and acne!! WHAT?!? I want a refund!!

Yeah, get it removed! I had mine for 2years before I made the decision to, which I really regret. The acne never clears up while your on it and Im still hugely pissed off about them. Ive had it out 2months and they are still there! Hope you find your symptoms inprove.

I have had the mirena for almost two years. If you can wait a little longer the pain will go away and periods will stop completly.

I just got mine removed today. I got it in January 07 and 2 weeks later the pimples started popping up like craaaazy! The doctor said the acne has nothing to do with the Mirena, but I'm sure it does. I'm 34 and I've never EVER in my life had acne problems. And to this day, it hasn't gotten any better. It's leaving scars, too :( And I gained 30 pounds since getting the Mirena. The best part is, once I got past the initial 3-4 weeks of light spotting, I've only had 1 very light period this whole time. However, the constant feeling of PMS every single day... including being dead tired 24/7 and screaming at my kids constantly... has been pretty aweful. I'm really hoping that things get better now that it's out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, too!

Golly, why did you pick this for your birth control choice? Sounds like you were doing fine before you had it inserted.

Be careful with Nuvaring, I was only on it for four months and developed a blood clot the entire length of my leg. Be sure to get a blood test done with your doc to check for any existing blood coagulation disorders BEFORE using Nuvaring again

Oh Yeah Me too. I just called my OBGYN and made an appt to have it removed. I can't handle the zits all over my back my chest...my arms. And constant bleeding. periods of 15 days or longer...only 5-10 days of clear per month. Terrible for the sex life. It sucks. Bad bad bad.

I had the mirena inserted a month ago. Big mistake, i have been moody, sad, depressed, angry, full of rage, and gained about 10 lbs. I feel like crap all the time. My boyfriend doesnt want to be around me, my family has seen a difference. I dont even want to go to work. I have been on my period for 12 days so far. feels like im pregnant. I used to have horrible acne, and i took accutane for 6 months. my face looked great until this week. broke out again, and i could just cry and cry. Having it removed on April 17th, I cant wait.

I had Mirena inserted in December 2007 (18 months ago) and have had bouts of depression and anxiety. No idea if it's Mirena related or postpartum. A friend told me her depression stopped when she had hers removed. Having it put in was worse than giving birth! I was NOT prepared for the pain. My uterus is tilted but sheesh! I was shaking and sweating, it was awful. I had cramping for a couple of weeks and some spotting. After that, I've not had any pain, nor have I actually had a full period. In 18 months, I've spotted about 3-4 times (1-2 days each). So, in that respect it's good. However, I've always had acne but I've now EXPLODED everywhere...pretty much from the tush, up! I've become so bad that I went to a dermatologist for the first time in 10 years and he's putting me on Accutane. I've always wanted to do it, anyway, so it gives me a reason. The only reason I've not had Mirena removed is b/c I'm not ready for the pain of removal and worrying about another form of birth control.

I went to my doctor like 6months after i had it in and she said that everything was normal it just takes time for your body to adjust.... yeah that was the biggest lie in the world so my baby is 14months and ive waited long enough!!!! you know i havent gained weight like crazy or no acne BUT it always feel like a big knot in the lower part of my stomach like sharp pain and like someone punched me in the stomache at the same time. the weirest periods like it was only like 3 days now its like a whole month straight. Ive had like (i knw this sounds gross but) dischargy stuff the whole time....every person is different though like my sister is going on her 6th year and loves it but i wish they would stop making it my horramones are crazy i a goofy person and now im not could any one tell me what would be best like birth control wise????
